The tailgate step does have it's uses, but there are times I need or want to get into the bed of my truck with the tailgate in the closed position. The GM bumper steps work well in my opinion, and after having them consider it to be a great way to access the bed. If it was an option to have the tailgate step or the bumper step, I'd choose the bumper step. Plus what happens to the tailgate step once the tailgate gets bent a little, as you see all the time on trucks that are hauling materials. Not knocking the tailgate step, just another way of looking at it.

Actually the step in front of the license plate is just as effective as the corner steps.
No it isn't. Haul something that extends past the tailgate and the step in front of the license plate is useless. Have had scaffolding planks in the bed that extend 2' past the end of the tailgate. No way to use the center step to get into the bed. Corner steps still work. That's just one example, there are others. - spud1957ExplorerSome times you (GM) have to blow out others candles to make your shine brighter.

The corner one can be used with the tailgate up or down. - v10superdutyExplorer

First rule in advertising - never drawn attention to your competitor.
GM is still doing it with the aluminum bed campaign all the while they are readying their own next gen aluminum 1/2 ton.
Fans on GM forums nash their teeth over the brain dead marketing department .
They mocked the step and now?
They mocked the aluminum and now?
They have not mocked the styling to much but now they are copying Ford's dropdown window style to .:W
New GM window style copies Ford
Smart move GM. On all 3 things. :B
They just wouldn't look so silly if they could hold back a bit on bashing the competition. Kindas like a guy who's the big boss now. CumminsDriver wrote:

I agree. I think the GM step bumper is the best looking and most practical option. - Rich1961ExplorerThe tailgate step does have it's uses, but there are times I need or want to get into the bed of my truck with the tailgate in the closed position. I have that on my truck. It works well. If the tailgate step was an option for my Ram, I would have bought it.
I thought that GM ad campaign was just about the dumbest thing ever. The integrated tailgate step is a fantastic idea.
I'm currently looking at getting a Bestop bumper step for my RAM 2500. Trucks have gotten so tall in recent years and it's just about a groin ripper to hike my short legs up in the bed. I need to get something like this to make it easier in and out of the truck.

I bought the AMP bed step since I'm a heavier guy and it's built to a heavier standard. I've had it since 2013, it was the first accessory I bought for my truck. Still works smoothly and shows no real sign of wear. Simple 1 hour job to install at most (should really take 30 minutes). Just need hand tools and some eye protection. - TurnThePageExplorer

GM will come out with an aluminum cab and a steel bed, the BEST of both worlds, forget the step.:B
Funny !!! :B
PM ask me about "military grade aluminum" and finally got it through to a non-techie (he refers to himself that way)... :C
Asked him how many ALUNIMUM socket sets, screw drivers, chisels, center punches, crow bars, hammers, and other tools he has...after trying to use steel/alu/plastic bicycles he has....nothing wrong with aluminum...just different strengths vs weaknesses...
