I did exactly as you are thinking and wired the 15A upfitter switch (3rd from the left) to the camera. Make sure to use a diode (60v, 5A) between the reverse activated power lead on the camera and the source for the reverse activated power so you don't backfeed the system when the switch is on.
My camera is a license plate camera so it's not as high as yours and it's offset to the left somewhat, but it works fine for me.
The upfitter switches I understand. Where is and what circuit is the "reverse activated power" wire to trigger the center display over-ride?
Thanks,
Joe
My aftermarket Kenwood unit has a wire that switches the in-dash unit to the camera view. I think it was pink, but I don't know if that is a standard or not. I have no idea what you have in your truck, but there is going to be a wire somewhere that turns on the camera view on your navigation unit. The easiest way with an aftermarket unit is to tap into the reverse light circuit. I couldn't find that in my cab area without stripping wires to find it so I tapped into the reverse light itself in the back and came up with the "T" wired circuit I described.
