under trailer storage tubes

Hey all...

I'm thinking about installing a couple of under-side storage tubes across the trailer in front of the axles...

One to put the two sewer hoses in, & one for roll up tables, etc...

I think 4" is right for the hoses, & maybe 6" for the tables...

any ideas as to how to correctly attach them to the frame/bottom of the trailer..??..

Thanks...

Nate
  • I used four inch on rear bumper for sewer hose with a 45 and threaded end cap. Works real well. Isuggest the huge zip ties drawn down tight
  • Yes, square is better IMO. You can even slide in a ladder that folds up pretty small. Can also slide in rain gutter in case you need something to elevate sewer tube to drain at campground.

Also give some thought of what to do for hinges or whichever way you want to keep the end caps on. I ended up with a bungee cord because I couldn't make up my mind what I wanted. Still looking for best way, and bungee cord still working great.

I also painted mine to match under side of RV. I used Ace hardware paint. But be sure to scratch up fence post with some sand paper first because they are pretty slick and paint didn't want to stick in some places.
  • Square vinyl fence post cover with 4" vinyl gutter:

As you can see the post cover is mounted atop the original steel bumper.....temporarily. I plan to get it underneath after I finish some other mods. If you have a conventional girder/beam frame, you can attach the tubes/post covers with strap and beam clamps--no drilling or welding required.
  • I put a 5" square vinyl fence post on top of my bumper and attached it with the very large zip ties used to install flex duct in A/C systems. Got the post and zip ties at Lowes.
  • I used light duty plumbers tape, and it held up well for about 4 years. It is only 3/4" wide and about 20 gauge.

You could also use a electrical conduit clamp, or some sheet metal that is thicker and a bit stronger.

You might also be able to find some U-bolts in 4" size. Or buy some 1/4" allthread and drill holes into the frame, then bolt the tubes with the allthread bent around the tubing, and cut to length.

    Good luck,

    Fred.
  • I used a square white vinyl fence post from HD. I believe it's 5 or 6 inch square. I used it to slide a piece of gutter into that holds several lengths of sewer hose.

On a previous rig I had installed the round tube style with the flat mounting pads molded on. It was ok but any grit that got on the twist lock end plugs made them difficult to turn and lock.

I made U shaped straps with self tapping 5/16 screws into the bottom of the box frame. HD sells misc steel. 3/4 or 1" wide or so by 1/8'thick
  • Just mounted a 4" pvc tube over my back bumper. It is a little tight for my sewer hose but I am putting 30 ft in the tube. I would suggest 5" for sewer and 6" for the tables.
