US Pickup Trucks trying to copy VW?

Despite Big Money, 2017 Ford F-150 Stares At Failure

Out of all the pickup trucks in the US market, you won’t find any model – be it mid-size, full-size, or compact – that rivals the Ford F-150 in terms of effort in achieving higher fuel economy.

The unfortunate news for Blue Oval is that its top-selling truck (sales leader in the US as well) is still not doing enough to meet US emissions regulations.

According to Carbuzz, about 40 percent of the F-150 units sold stateside so far this year have come short of the what authorities in the US have set as the minimum bar for mileage and emissions.

This news would surely be a sting to the Dearborn car maker, especially since it has invested over $1 billion in refurbishing its production plants so that the F-150 would adopt a more lightweight aluminum-intensive build.

Going All Out

Besides that, the automaker has also introduced 2.7L and 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine options, with the latter replacing the 6.2L V8 block on the previous SVT Raptor performance model. Paired to these new engines is the a newly-developed ten-speed automatic transmission for smoother, more efficient drives.

Blue Oval has its efficiency-boost plans stretching all the way through the end of the decade, when it would offer a hybrid variant of the F-150. Before that, changes are being planned for the design of the full-size pickup in order to improve its aerodynamics.
