- 64thunderboltExplorer III was fueling the other day and a guy was doing the same on the other side. We started talking. He had the 6.2 and a 30' 5er. He said he was disappointed. On the flats going to San Diego from Phx with only 1 hard pull in Ca. He said he avg 6/8 mpg. Now that is what he said so take it for that.

The horsepower and torque of the 6.2 are not that much less than the V10. Plus, isn't the 6.2 bolted to a more sophisticated transmission? Think I would favor the newer technology.
It really is a more sophisticated transmission. I also agree with the other posters that the V10 is a beast once rolling. The off the line power is sufficient but its not pavement ripping. - thomasmnileExplorerThe horsepower and torque of the 6.2 are not that much less than the V10. Had same problem as you V-10 or 6.2. Ended up with 2010 F-350 crew cab short bed V-10. Love it . Tows my 10,000 lbs. 5th wheel great . I to am planning trip out west next summer, so we will see how it does in mtns . Seems like this V-10 has more mid range power , and with 4.10 gears it does ok from a dead stop also. Only have towed on flat land in Ohio getting 8/9 mpg. I think 6.2 is a capable motor, but some guys complained about 6 speed trans and its shifting especially while towing. For me it came down to the 6.2 is still a new motor, just like 6.7 diesel , need a few years to work out any problems.
True. The v10 has been around for a while. Plus 10 cylinders just sounds cool.
Prices are slightly better than the '11 6.2 around here too. Im looking to spend about 20k or less on the tv if this plan to rv for a year works out. For that you can get a '10 f250 xltcrew short box 4x4 (mouth full) with around 120k kms. - thatsmeExplorerHad same problem as you V-10 or 6.2. Ended up with 2010 F-350 crew cab short bed V-10. - mkirschNomad IIYou want low mileage? Up until two weeks ago I drove my dually a whopping 178 miles this year.
I didn't even run it enough to burn the winter fuel.
Normally I'm around 2000 miles by now. - mudfuel07ExplorerYeah, I wouldn't mind having a diesel, but I don't drive enough to make it worthwhile. Besides, the only thing I have done to my truck so far in 127,000 miles is change the filters and plugs. It's pretty nice, other than the mileage.

The V10 is a monster! You can get about 12-13 unloaded with factory tires. Look for one with the 4.30 gears if possible, the engine likes to rev. The 6.2 will get slightly better fuel mileage, but it also has a 6 speed trans versus the 5 speed of the V10.
Yah. I really like that torque number on the later v10s. Plus I Never mind winding out a motor a little. Truthfully a diesel would be ideal but for the same cost I would end up with about double the miles on it. - mudfuel07ExplorerThe V10 is a monster! - Golden_HVACExplorerThe F-250 will work well with a travel trailer, yet with a fifth wheel, the F-350 will handle the 2,000 - 2,500 pound hitch weight much better.
I have a older 97 class A motorhome with a 460" V8, it only gets 7 MPG, and the next year they replaced the 460" 7.5L with the V10 6.8L. I am happy I have the old and very proven motor, not the "New" V10, that in it's early years had problems once the owners started replacing the spark plugs.
I am happy I bought a gas engine, the maintenance is much less than a diesel, and quiet too.
Fred.
