- Ex-TechExplorerI have met many dog owners that treat their dogs like their children which is fine.
In fact, some responders in this thread may do just that.
Now seriously, would you leave your human children in a closed up trailer with the hope that all the stars are properly aligned and nothing will go wrong while you are gone?
I have camped for well over 40 years. I now manage an RV park. My air conditioners have sometimes failed for one reason or another and power outages in RV parks do occur including in my park.
So if you are comfortable abandoning the "children" that you so dearly love and can then live with yourself if the worse does happen, then go for it.
As far as the barking goes, if you read the rules and regulations that many facilities have, you will see that one of the common rules is not creating a nuicence to other campers and sorry, a dog that constantly barks while it's owner is gone is a nuicence and I can't begin to tell you the number of owners that swear their dogs don't bark when they are gone when in fact they do.
And one more thing. My park is across the street from the ocean. A few years ago after the big quake in Japan, we had a Sunnami alert and we evacuated the park. You see, there are some unexpected circumstances that can happen and I'm sorry but it's not fair for irresponsable pet owners to place responsibilities for the well being of their pets in someone else's hands. During that alert, there were a number of RVs that had to be forced open in this area so pets could be removed because their owners were out having a good time. So that "slight" chance mentioned in this thread that something could happen, does happen. - jbresExplorerI had this same issue as we would leave our 3 dogs in our TT at times while on vacation. I was the week after 4th of July, so I knew it would be hot!
I researched, and from the advice of people on here we purchased a "Connectasense" product. Go to the web site and it explains how it works etc etc..
Also, for what its worth, I was camping two weeks ago on a very hot and busy weekend, and out of the blue, the electric breaker popped on my site. Good thing I hadn't left, and left dogs inside TT or they could have very easily cooked. - Bucky_BadgerExplorerdamn OP you just can't win around here
- RinconVTRExplorerI just came across this thread and see 7 pages that I just cant take the time to read!
We had the same concern as the OP, and this was one big reason I installed a Maxair fan with thermostat control. We leave one vent open when we leave the dog for the day and set the fan thermostat to 78, so if the temps go over 78 it will kick on the fan and at least keep the temps near the same as the outside while running on battery.
But honestly...this worry is pretty beyond anything that would every happen. One, it would have to be DANG hot outside, power failure at the campground (never happened yet) is rare, and the dogs left alone all day at peak times...long enough to cook'em? For all those star to align....wow....that day would be one heck of a day! - dadmomhExplorerFar from being funny.
- BarneySNomadWierd way to request that a thread be closed, even when using the "wink" emoticon. :R

Missed the wink on my first reading.
My sense of humor must be different.
I do NOT find it funny. - TNGW1500SEExplorerDidn't want to even chance that my dogs might bark so I had both dogs put down today. Now there's no need for anyone else telling me I should board them. You may end the thread now. They're gone. ;)
- KittykathExplorer IIHad my first experience last weekend with a day-long barker a few sites down. Truck gone, door and windows wide open. Wow, was the enough to drive a person insane! Felt sorry for the poor little guy because he barked himself hoarse, so no barking by the time the owners returned. Turns out they had to make a run to the emergency room.

Surely if the owner says their dog NEVER barks, they MUST be right, right???
That's a rude comment! You have no idea about my dogs or me. I shouldn't have to have my thread highjacked and have to answer for my dogs that don't bark.
Are you really sure my dogs bark? I did a time lapse video of them once and posted it on youtube. They were at home but there's plenty of noises there too. The camper is just a second home to them. Want to watch it? If you do, watch the clock on the wall. Then tell me they bark.

OH! Almost forgot. One of them is deaf now so make all the noise you want she isn't going to bark at you!!!!
Dogs bark primarily out of boredom, especially when left alone. How would you know if you're not there?
I know it is old technology, but voice activated recorders work well to determine if the dog is barking in our absence. I will not train out an occasional bark.
If you are in a campground that allows dogs, you will hear an occasional bark. To expect otherwise is unreasonable.
Barking continuously? That is another story.
See my earlier post in this topic about Valarm app. It allows you to record and monitor sound as well as temp. If triggered by an event (barking/temp going up) it will send email/text etc. I'm still testing but so far like the concept. So yes, I will know if my dogs are barking. They do not so far in camper left alone, in our house the will if they see people or odd noises - no idea why the difference.
