- the_happiestcamExplorerFirst diesel was a basic diesel - 2003 2500 Ram crew cab with 8' bed. Very capable in towing with the 5.9 Cummins - but it had black vinyl seats, and no head rests in the rear. Very uncomfortable truck.
My gasser in my sig is very comfortable, and actually pulls better than the Ram. It does drink compared to the diesel. - parkersdadExplorer

I say diesel anytime. Than you will not have to upgrade trucks when you decide to go larger. - gtsumExplorer

Oh...good thing I didn't wait on it then! I do like the 150 coming out....expect the new sd to be good also, but didn't know it was still that far off - jmillerExplorerSuper duty does not get a redesign until 2017.

Just order exactly what u want and be done with it. I just did that on a ram Laramie 3500....once u get to 60k, what's 68k in the grand scheme of things if u get what u want?
I'm trying to get a deal on a '13 or '14 and the orders ended a while back. It's probably going to be a year or so before I can get 8-11k off of a 2015 but it may be worth the wait.
The redesigned ford sd?? I am looking forward to seeing what they come out with - Buck50HDExplorer

- Buck50HDExplorerDidn't disappear, just away truck shopping for a few days:)
Still no decision but got to see a few more options. The topic of this thread isn't representative of my original truck search. Initially, my goal was to go with a gas F250/350 XLT that had the few options I have on my F150HD (info display, backup cam, reverse sensors, tailgate step, limited slip/locker rear, sirius/XM). On the super duty I also wanted the powerscope mirrors, camper package and an upgrade to 18" wheels and A/T tires (5th prep would be a bonus). I'm finding it very difficult to find this combo. Actually, more difficult than finding the truck I have.
So, my next thought was to just get a lariat 6.2 and be done with it. But, at that price, an XLT 6.7 diesel is very close, even with the add-ons I listed. But, getting all those options on an XLT is still the challenge and I have yet to find one with it all. Every XLT I find, 6.2 or 6.7, is missing at least one of my requirements. The closest 6.2 is missing the power mirrors and has the base 17" wheels with A/S tires. My wife refuses to get one with the 17's because of the looks:( It does look a little odd but is growing on me and I could deal with it until they are worn out, then upgrade.
The last part of the puzzle is that I really like my current truck so I'm not itching to ditch it quite yet and it would be paid off in a few months.
In general, all brands seem to be very similar in price, even Ram. If Ram was significantly less expensive, I'd consider but that doesn't seem to be the case. Ford would be my first choice but I have almost $2k on my GM card to play with. When I sit in a GM after having this F150, it is noticeably smaller and overall doesn't appeal to me nearly as much.
I'm starting to lean heavily toward diesel purely for the performance. The fuel economy should compensate the fuel cost plus the resale is incredible without losing the characteristics I enjoy with the eco. A loaded up diesel would be great and I could swing it but is beyond what I can justify to myself (and my wife). - OhhWellExplorer

yep, any one who keeps their truck for long haul will buy a diesel.
This has been the standard diesel mantra for the last 10+ years and I have to call BS. Not on you, jasult, by any means... just the theory that gets thrown around. Yes, the engine (and maybe a good tranny) will last 250K or more but there are A LOT of other components in modern day trucks that don't last anywhere near that long and are REALLY expensive.
Turbos, injectors, head gaskets to name some of the more expensive ones. Then there are just the normal truck things that aren't going to last anywhere near as long as the engine - hubs, suspension parts, interior finishes, dash lights, power windows, exhaust systems, starters, alternators, water pumps.
Realistically, if people want a diesel, buy it for the towing performance. Don't get sucked into thinking you'll keep it until you're 70 years old. Unless you're a mechanic or want to become one.
I'll bet my '12 F250 diesel is still going strong when I hit 70
How long do we have to wait to find out?
Oh, I will not take you up on that bet in that case!
