- LantleyNomadAll you naysayers just open your minds a wee bit.
Imagine if someone developed an electric engine that could replace the ICE.
Would you say this is a horrible idea let's scrap it!
Imagine if when the model T was developed someone said lets scrap this thing these horses are just fine.
Or maybe they could have said, "Where are we going to get all the gas from for these horseless carriages"...
However if you really want to know if EV's are feasible and that GM will stop building ICE cars.......Drive a Tesla! Then you will understand what the energy/transportation revolution is all about. - TomG2ExplorerGlad the Negative Neds are not in charge of our progress.
What if they discovered a way to charge wirelessly? Machinery could be used and charged at the same time. Oops! You mean we can already do that with our cell phones? What will they think of next? One thing for sure, it will not be Ned's invention. - Grit_dogNavigatorWell, this stayed right on topic....

Yes if you want to run a scraper 16+ hours a day it is going to remain diesel.time2roll wrote:
I wonder though of battery's density with heavy equipment being power hungry.
That is what I am talking about. I call that in the HD range.
At the same time we have all seen these backhoes dig for an hour or two for access to something. Then hours or days to make the repair before the hole is refilled. May not even need a charge until the next job.
And of course we have all seen the huge counter weights on a crane... just turn those into batteries. Crane is often intermittent use and might go all day just fine. Park next to the temporary power at night.- Yosemite_Sam1Explorer

Harley Davidson did the same thing, and they still say they got their start in 1903 or thereabouts. Besides, who cares?
Did it die? It would not have even kept the name if it did. There is such thing in corporate world where even if you have a negative equity, deader than dead but still have a pulse, the still is considered a "going concern". Otherwise, it would have been liquidated (shooting an injured horse analogy) and assets sold and no longer allowed to operate.
That did not happen to GM. It got medicated and able to payback the assistance that they got.
You care enough to comment, lol!:S time2roll wrote:

Yes I was thinking scrapers, bulldozers etc. Even a crane could be fully electric. Many construction sites have temporary power. Just pull direct or charge overnight.time2roll wrote:

HD? There is a big thread on the Tesla Semi. Is that HD?
Fact:
There will be more petroleum vehicles on the road 20 years from now as battery technology hasn't even scratched the surface and likely never will in HD applications.....it's commuter technology only.
Yes might be a long time before mobile construction and excavation equipment gives up diesel. Although I could see some converting depending on the situation.
For years some of the underground mining equipment has run on electricity.
Yes even some of the largest strip-mining is powered by electric. Just need to pull the wire to these very slow moving machines.
Here you go.

Guess we'll find out in 2036 when they're still producing ICE powered vehicles.
And do you think GM, a 112 years old car company made a mistake in not producing anymore gas vehicle bay 2035?
Are you saying you know more about their plans and goals than they themselves?:B
