Best route Benton, IL to Fort Wayne, IN?

Fall trip late September. I have read where the Indiana roads can be pretty bumpy.

Would it be better (On a Thursday) to take IH-57 north to Highway 24 and east across to Fort Wayne OR take IH-70 through Indianapolis to Fort Wayne?

We have traveled Highway 24 in Illinois before and realize that it can be stop and go traffic. I like the US and state highways. He likes the Interstates...ugh! Also not sure of any highway repairs or construction around Indianapolis.

In our Class C we seem to feel every bump so that is why I ask. We will not be in a hurry.

On all of my recent trips from Colorado to Fort Wayne and more specifically Stroh, I use I-57 to US 24 east to Fort Wayne. The road conditions on I-69 between Indy and Fort Wayne were terrible the last time I was through there, and they were heavy into construction. The small towns in Indiana are not a problem, and you pick up 4 lane at Logansport, all the way in to Fort Wayne.
  • Definitely go with the US 24 option over I 70/69. We live in Ft. Wayne, and find ourselves on I 69 between Indianapolis and FWA quite often. Lots of construction and lots of traffic north of Indy, with some really rough roads. Good news is that eventually it'll be three lanes each side between Indy and Anderson, but the bad news is that it'll be a lousy drive until completed.
