For Charleston we have stayed at James island county park. Obviously I don’t know what your interested in but I enjoyed Charles towne landing, (palmetto island?). You can go to the old slave market downtown. There really is to much to do to list here. I generally don’t enjoy going near a big city for vacation but this is one exception.
X2 - ct1964upsExplorerIn Charleston,we stay at Oak Plantation and eat at Red's Ice House....do the harbor tour interesting and the trolley tour
In Savannah,we stay at Hardeeville-Thomas Campground and do the Trolley tour here,also...then go to Mrs Wilkes Boarding house for lunch...open 11 a.m. To 2 p.m. BEST SOUTHERN COOKING YOU WILL GET IN West Jones at
In Columbia,we like the Barnyard Campground....and eat at Cole's on Assembly St...just a great restaurant...C - 2gypsies1Explorer III
- AikenRacerExplorerGo see the Hunley submarine in Charleston....great historical tour
- Retired_JSOExplorerCharleston, we stay at James Island County Park when we can get in or Oak Plantation on US 17. James Island CP is a skip and a jump from downtown. We like Oak Plantation but traffic interferes with ientering and leaving the campground. The KOA in Summerville is a glorified trailer park.
- klr650goldwingExplorerThanks, everyone. We are good to go.

We will be traveling through these cities in early November. Most likely we will only stay 2-3 days in each location. Can you recommend some campgrounds and places to see, things to do etc. in each?
Might just be me, but when in the area, we have always enjoyed Asheville and the Biltmore along with Lake Toxaway, if you are into the Mountains.
Along the Coast Hilton Head has been Great with the Marina CG/ Sunset Restaurant that is on the Intercoastal and the Beaches that are so hard you can ride your bike on them.
In early November it is likely the Christmas decoration might be up and the Beach is still not too Cold :)
Along the Central lakes there are also a number of High End resort type CG's that are available if that's your thing.
SeaFood and Sunrises and Sunsets are the thing that we most remember.

We did a road trip from New York to Florida earlier this summer and loved every mile... almost. In Savanna, we did the "Trolley Tour" of the Historical/Old Town. Our driver was very informative and I would highly recommend it to others. We also did lunch at Paula Deen's Restaurant, really liked that. There is lots to see and do there, enjoy. JH
Double ditto. Great historic tours in Savannah, GA. Skidaway Island State Park is nearby and some of the sites have full hookups. It's a very nice park that doesn't have the sites crammed close together. The bugs, especially mosquitos can be a problem in those areas even in winter so bring insect repellent. With the hurricane causing flooding, the mosquito population has exploded. - micpib1ExplorerWe did a road trip from New York to Florida earlier this summer and loved every mile... almost. - kknowltonExplorer IIFor Charleston, we stayed at Oak Plantation CG, southeast of town. Easier to get to than James Island IMO, and pretty nice. Older CG but lots of grass & trees. For Savannah, we stayed at the Savannah South KOA, which was fine, sites a little tight. Nice little pond & some (very) friendly ducks. They had tours into town from the CG. We'd go back to either place if in the area. I do recommend a city tour in Savannah, as you can learn some of the really interesting history of the city & the buildings you'll see. Ft. Pulaski is a really interesting spot to visit, outside Savannah.
If you are interested in the military, visit Patriot Point, on the north side of Charleston. And definitely visit the Battery (the old part of the city, along the harbor). Just park & walk - the place is just gorgeous. The story goes that Gen. Sherman found the city just too beautiful to destroy. I can believe it.
