Hey guys-For a few years now, we've gotten great input from forum members here on our trips so I'm hoping this will be no exception. I have 2 weeks at the beginning of July and would like to visit 2 of these states, Georgia for sure. Looking for suggestions on areas to stay, CGs and attractions. We'd like to stay at one CG in each state where day trips up to an hour are available. We have 3 kids ages 10, 8 and 4 and like hiking, mountains, scenic drives, adventure attractions, zoos, swimming etc. The wife wants to be near Atlanta for the Walking Dead tour. Other than that, we are looking for any and all suggestions. Thanks so much!!!!

North CarolinaSmokey Mountains, lots of scenic views Gatlinburg not far away (Dollywood for kids)Asheville, Biltmore House, Lake Lure (dirty dancing filmed there i think)Our favorite place in N.C. but may be a bit far is the Outer Banks and Kitty Hawk. Standing on the hill where the first flight took place means nothing to read in a book but to stand there with the wind blowing constantly at 30-40 mph and seeing the long, sloping hill makes it all come to life. Light houses are really fun to walk up on and the Corolla Spanish horses are really cool to see. (They are wild, it is illegal to interact with them, they have land rights over the home owners and great history of how they got there). It feels like you are walking back in time so see them roaming the beaches.

Franklin NC. Gem capital of the US. Waterfalls galore. Pan for rubies and sapphires. I found a 199 caret grey sapphire two years ago. Helen Georgia south about an hour. Underground waterfall 3 hours west. Appalachian trail will be your neighbor. About this time of year some of the damns are opened for some white water rafting. Small town atmosphere where yes sir and no sir is common.

Since you want to go to Atlanta, I would suggest staying at the Stone Mtn. Park. There is so much that you can do and see in the area you might not have time to visit North Carolina.

For Georgia, consider F. D. Roosevelt Sate Park in Pine Mountain, GA. Great hiking, lake, swimming pool, and on a high plateau that will give you a taste of mountains. Water and electric sites on the lake and in wooded areas. Locally is Wild Animal Safari, which is a drive through zoo with exotic animals and a petting zoo. FDR's Little White House has been preserved and an adjacent museum is very well done and entertaining to kids as well. Lots of antique shops and neat little places to eat.

West Virginia I would suggest Pipestem State Park.They have everything.Swimming indoor and outdoor pools,sauna,2 restaurants one of which you take a cable car to get to.They have horseback riding,archery,nature walks,fishing,boat rentals,golf course,mini golf,tennis.And the campground is pretty nice too.

In West Virginia there are many areas located in the Monongahela National forest. Seneca rocks is worth checking out and there is great hiking in Dolly Sods wilderness area. It's a very nice area and not as crowded as the Smoky's.

One of my favorite stops for photographs in West Virginia is the Glade Creek Grist Mill in Babcock State Park. There is a campground in the park with electric hookups a few miles from the mill.

We are currently staying in Stone Mountain Park, nice campground, views of the lake and mountain. Nice sites, cable TV and WiFi (know that it may be important for the kids ;-) ). It's about 30 minutes away from Atlanta (Aquarium, Coca Cola, CNN, Centennial Park). There are many things to do right here in the park, especially in the nicer weather. Senoia (Walking Dead filming location) is about an hour away. If you choose to venture further east Savannah is a great place to visit and we really liked staying at Skidaway Island State Park Campground - it's very nice, large sites, a well appointed park. While there take a trolley tour throughout the Savannah downtown, you can park in the Visitor Center and book whichever tour you decide to take right there. I'd recommend to start out early in the day to fully take advantage of the tour experience. The Bonaventure Cemetery is worth a visit, several interesting grave sites to see, pick up a map in the office. If you visit Savannah you may want to see the movie "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" prior to going. It gives you a little feel for the city and the murder referenced in the movie actually occurred in Savannah and is mentioned on the tour.

I would do Georgia and Tennessee.
In Georgia Stone Mountain State Park. There is a Coca Cola museum downtown Atlanta that is supposed to be neat.
I would stay near Sevierville, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg TN and drive into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Lots of hiking. Be sure to visit Cades Cove. We like Big Meadow Family Campground in Townsend TN. There is also a KOA there. We usually stay at River Plantation in Sevierville but we don't mind the traffic and noise. You can also drive to Cherokee, visit the Cherokee Native American Museum and see "Unto These Hills" an outdoor drama about the Trail of Tears.

We own a Rv lot in north Georgia (Blairsville) so we're pretty familiar with the area. The north Georgia mountains are beautiful and if you like to hike, there are lots of hikes, many with waterfalls. The state parks in the mountains are beautiful. We are near Vogel SP, Black Rock is also very nice as well as Amicalola and Talallulah Gorge. You are minutes away from the Appalachian Trail.
