- John_S_Explorer III would look at the Jellystone in Natural Bridge. Nice area and nice campground. The idea of needing full hookup was not top in my mind till I was camping last weekend with my grandkids and their trailer. We were in the motorhome andthe three year old washed her hands to till the tank was full. They have a 32 foot trailer and the tanks are not the biggest and they have six people in there. They dumped every day and sometimes twice a day while I was going on two weeks between dumps. Different strokes and it was plainly clear why my son in law wanted full hookups.

I don't have an ax to grind, We just don't use our state parks, I simply find that I get a much better deal at the COE cg's than I do at VA State Parks, & they don't have the stupid pet fee, and they are usually nicer cg's, plus they are all on the water.Johno02 wrote:
find somewhere other than a Virgina state park. You can get a lot more for your money elsewhere. Virginia State Parks senior officials do not want RVers. Spend your money with those who appreciate you and want your business.
I've enjoyed all my stays at VA state parks. They have a great system.
Lake Anna is a great choice. Don't let the naysayers or those with an ax to grind discourage you.. There is nothing wrong with VA state parks. They may have the best state system in the Mid Atlantic! - Parrothead_MikeExplorerHere's a nice little RV park in southwest VA, Big Stone Gap. We stayed here last October and had a great time. It's small, but well run and the owner is a great guy.

- mosseaterExplorer IIWe like Shenandoah River State Park, Andy Guest campground a great deal, though it's only water and elec. hookups.
We just came back from Harrisonburg KOA and it was nice. Not stellar, but nice. I've seen negative reviews, but it seemed very well run to us. I also have it on good authority Luray KOA Kountry Waye is a very nice full hook up CG with full hook-ups. - RGar974417Explorer

A park that is on the top of our list and relatively close to you is North Bend. COE campground on Kerr Lake at the VA/NC border.
It is one of my favorite parks too, but it is not full hookup.
Yes,Virginia has many great state and federal parks that we have really enjoyed. But the OP stated full hook ups required and most of these parks only have electric or electric and water.I guess from their statement, the OP values full hookups over anything else. - maznchleExplorerx2 on Staunton/walnut hill KOA right off 81 s nice clean park with lots to see and do if you wish in the area. We are here now till tomorrow 8/8 lake side back in sites 42$ PAUL
- jnharleyExplorerOccanechee State Park is also a great one. Near the Kerr Lake Reservoir on the VA/NC border. We like Va State Parks. Yes, they like many states have raised their rates in recent years. And many who own pets do not like their extra fee for pets. When we had our puppy, we just paid the fee and enjoyed ourselves.

Mapquest shows it at 2 hrs, 55 minutes from Raleigh: Holiday Lake SP near Appomattox, VA is lovely. They only have a handful of full hookup sites, but many more electric/water, with a dump station handy. Lovely big sites for the full hookups, not packed closely together, new bath house, hiking trails, swimming in the lake, about 10 miles from the Appomattox Court House NP where Lee surrendered to Grant ending the Civil War.
Also, there's James River State Park, maybe 20 minutes farther away. The Redbud campground is only a few years old w/ full hookups, but hard to get reservations, as it is popular.
Do get on the VA state parks reservations system and reserve your site for either.
Both of these parks are only water and electric. Most of the sites at Red Oak at James River will accommodate any size rig. Holiday Lake is much older and most of the sites are fairly small but they did add a few larger sites a couple years back if size is any issue. - naturistNomadMapquest shows it at 2 hrs, 55 minutes from Raleigh: Holiday Lake SP near Appomattox, VA is lovely.
