Cruiser 5th wheel by crossroads

Hi. We are now considering a 5th wheel 2004 Cruiser by Crossroads. Any opinions?

Thor or Forest River, pick your poison! Some divisions are worse than others on build quality/customer service. We had a '06 Cedar Creek and after several years of owning it, one of the local techs at dealer told me then we had a better built coach than the new Creeks. Sold that Creek and now have a Big Country (Heartland/Thor) and had 1 issue which was taken care of by Heartland. Otherwise very good coach. Since this quote was made by what sounds to be a person who mows, MTD makes mowers for several companies, can you say the same about them? Even John Deere makes a lower quality line to compete w/ the likes of MTD. Not until you move up into a HD JD line will you see a vast difference in things.
  • We had an 06 and it held up very well. Like any RV the owner must keep all joints sealed properly and do maintenance regularly to keep it good. Proper removing and re-caulking of joints cannot be overstated. Delamination of walls is a killer to value and structural integrity. When we bought a new 5th wheel in 17 I could not find a dealer in relative close driving distance so we decided on a Grand Design. If this is an 04 you better check for delamination!!
  • We own a 2015 we bought new. Had 2 MAJOR issues that came up at month 13 and 14. Warrantee expired at month 12 and they wouldn't cover one of the issues.

Tire snapped off all 6 lugs from a tire. Tire flew through sidewall of trailer. Cruiser had a recall for this exact issue on the same model as ours, just 1 year different. At first they wouldn't cover, then after many phone calls they finally replaced hubs and lugs all around. I still had to do an insurance claim for the damage to the unit.

While unit was being repaired, it was discovered Cruiser failed to put wood in the channels of the base trailer. This wood is what holds the body of the trailer to the base. Cruiser refused to assist in the repair (along with Camping World with my extended warrantee). I was stuck with a 4.5K repair.

I would not go with Cruiser.....
  • Like any 2004 trailer, if it lasted this long it must have been well cared for. If it's in decent shape you should be fine.

    B.O.
  • I own a 2014 crossroads cruiser and would say the build quality is better than other trailers in the same price range. So far no issues and have found very few factory screw ups.
  • They are a smaller company, not as frequently seen as others. The 2004 model you are looking at I believe is "pre Thor" so that shouldn't be an issue. Most 2004 model units were actually built in 2003, Thor bought Crossroads in 2004.
Based on the age you are looking at, many brands quality was decent in that time frame, hopefully someone who can speak from direct personal experience with those units will be able to tell you more shortly.
