Fifth Wheel Lube Plate -- Who uses one?

I am new to 5th Wheel. How many of you use a Lube Plate on the 5er? I got one and it appears to add too much space (height) for my hitch to lock the kingpin in place without some effort on my part.

Are they necessary?

If not a lube plate what do you do?
Please give me enough troubles, uncertainty, problems, obstacles and STRESS so that I do not become arrogant, proud, and smug in my own abilities, and enough blessings and good times that I realize that someone else is in charge of my life.

Easy fix if it does not stay up in place. Lay on hard surface. Hit the edges of the hole with a hammer. This will decrease the diamiter and make the plate stay in place.

The only other option is to gob grease on the 5th wheel which is really messy.

Although I prefer a lube plate as well. I use 1/8" with my Hensley BD3
Slip plate is a very viable option that is not as messy. I keep a can handy.

Some sliders hitches have a catch plate, they are out of luck. Used the same one part timing 10 years

We use one as well. Don't really like cleaning grease off my shirt, I do enough of that at work....

Yes .....have since 2005

What brand is your hitch.
Some will NOT work with a plate
Some you will need the 1/8" plate

So what is your hitch?
Is it time for your medication or mine?

I use a Hensley 1/8" plate. The 1/4" makes it harder to see what the weight is off the hitch for un hitching my B&W.
