Holiday Rambler Aluma-Lite Info

I inherited my father's 32' Aluma-Lite fifth wheel. Last fall I winterized the trailer water lines by opening the low point valves and letting the water drain out. I used the system water pump to put RV antifreeze in the lines. I opened the faucets and ran water until pink antifreeze came out. Did this with each faucet. This summer I filled the water tank with clean water and reconnected the supply line to the pump and ran the faucets until clean water came out. I am still experiencing an odd smell similar to the RV antifreeze smell. I can't figure out how to drain the main tank. I fear some antifreeze got in the main tank and that has "poisoned" the water. There is a 3rd valve with the low point valves but nothing comes out. I have the original manuals that came with the trailer, but they don't have many details. Does anyone have information about the Aluma-Lite plumbing system. I called the Holiday Rambler company in Elkhart, IN and was told the company that built my trailer went out of business in 2009 and they couldn't help me.
Thanks
  • Rocketry welcome. First off what year is your Holiday second monaco was the manufacturer who bought Holiday and the fact that the current company holding the Holiday Name said they couldn't help is a disgrace. The Holiday's where once the kings of the hill in my opinion. Anyway you are correct the third valve is indeed the fresh water drain however if it is plumbed like all my holidays you have to leave it open and drive the camper around to get all the low lying water to slosh out while stopping and starting and turning after a few miles you can do your sanitation cycle and run the water through the system then again to get the last little bit out open the 3rd valve and drive her around a bit or if that's not an option fill the tank and drain multiple times to achieve the old "solution to pollution is dilution" effect.
  • On our HR, the water tank main drain is between the last axle. I have to reach between the tires to give it a quarter turn when we drain for the season.
  • You need to make sure that the fresh water tank is drained before sanitizing. If not, you will not be able to sanitize properly. Sticking a small wire will not hurt the tubing or valve. Good luck.
  • Thinking that 1/4 cup per gal was a bit strong. I checking manual for sanitizing. mix a 1/4 cup bleach to 1 gal of water then add one gallon of mixture to 15 gal of tank water. Which where I was getting confused. So I need to mix 1/4 cup to 16 gallon of water,1/2 oz/4 gallons, which would be better.
  • Thanks for the ideas. I thought about using a small wire on the 3rd line thinking it might be plugged. But was afraid to damage the lines. I'll try the bleach on the lines hope that helps.
    Thanks
  • 1/4 cup bleach per gallon of water? That's WAY more bleach than I use, more like 1/4oz per gallon. Fill all, leave it in for a few hours and then flush with fresh.
  • When you unwinterize you should also sanitize your water system. The easiest way is to add 1/4 cup of bleach to each gal of water. Pump it into you lines the same way as you add antifreeze. Make sure you can smell bleach at each faucet. Let sit for 4hrs then flush your system with fresh water. That will get rid of the odor that the Pink stuff leaves.
  • There should be a drain for the fresh water tank. My 2007 HR was in the back, just forward of the bumper. It is possible that slime/algae has plugged the valve opening or the stem, which is plastic, twisted off and the valve is actually still closed. Once you solve your problem, sanitize the fresh water tank if you plan on using it for anything other than the toiled.
