Water pump running...and running

All of the above advice is very good advice. I would eliminate all of the previous answers first, and I'll bet you will find the answer. But there is one more possibilitiy AFTER you try the other remedies and that other possibility would be a bad pump. My friend (who is age 80 and still going strong) called me and asked for help with a pump that wouldn't shut off. Everything was a head scratcher until we unhooked the pump and put the in and out hoses in a bucket of water and it would not pump either way we tried it. It had probably just sheared a key in the pump so the impeller wasn't turning, but since his rig was 8 years old he chose to just get a new pump.

Something no one thought about. But if the FW tank is empty. No way for pump to build up pressure to shut itself off.

I agree with a lot of the others. But It sounds like you might be sucking air. The least little air hole can cause it to run and it's pulling air instead of water. check all connections,lines, stool, outside spikets, any where water goes. and especially where the line screws to the pump. When the pump is running, assuming it's not defective, it's because something is calling for water. this could also be why your pressure is down. I would check really good for leaks. something is telling that pump to kick on and you're not getting full pressure.

I agree, put water in your fresh water tank! Or turn the pump off!

You have this valve in tank fill position. What happens then is the pump sees low pressure in front of it, so it pumps and pumps, but the water just is recirculating and it just goes around in a circle and comes back into the tank.

When you change that valve to allow the full camp pressure to come only to your taps inside instead of to your internal tank, you will have full camp pressure from your campground.

The Cameo comes with a whole house water filter option. If you have this option have you changed the filter or used the filter by-pass? Like others have suggested you need to have water in your water tank to use the pump.

Check the inlet screen on your city water connection. Could be partially plugged.

Consider this water flow diagram of a typical RV water system. In this drawing the water pump is used to pull water from the fresh water tank and you should have water in the fresh water tank before using the water pump. It probably is not a good idea to run the water pump without water present on its input port.


The newer trailers have a RV water flow panel where you can select the city water to fill the fresh water tank but with the older trailers you usually have to manual fill the fresh water tank. My 2008 model trailer requires a manual fill of the fresh water before using it..
