No thanks, not worth the effort. :)
I know people on this forum just lie in wait to pounce on someone that they don't agree with to be total ........... fill in the blank - fj12ryderExplorer IIINo thanks, not worth the effort. :)
- OaklevelExplorer:) Its spot on !!!! Think about it.........

Were you going somewhere with this, or changed your mind and forgot to delete it? It doesn't really go anywhere, and has nothing to do with the topic that I can tell. Just curious. - OaklevelExplorerNever been stopped or know of any of our RVing friends that have been stopped for being overweight or checked. Know of no lawsuits either......
Usually the State Police etc are looking for the gross heavy commercial offenders like a log truck that damages the roads.........
Usually it will be a commercial issue, even for lawsuits going after deep pockets....
A little hard to determine actual weight for a RV that is spread all over the highway and the weight stickers usually fade out after a couple years.

The USSC ruled that stopping vehicles in such roadside checks are legal. Vehicles can be stopped for reasons of enforcing DUI. The driver can be asked to show ID during the stop. No probable cause is needed.
For commercial vehicles, which doesn't apply to anything on an RV forum unless you're in the business of transporting RVs, probable cause is not needed for a stop for purposes of enforcing motor carrier safety laws.
Yes it is! If you are driving irradically they have probable cause, where they are screening for drunks, they set up a check point, slow you down so they can take a good look, if they see something that is also probable cause, they can ask you to pull over for a further check. That is still probable cause, searching the vehicle you must give permission or they need to get a warrant, even if the dog starts barking!! You are correct commercial vehicles come under a whole differant set of rules, and they do not apply here! - NorthwestBoundExplorerWell, i appreciate all responses to my post. I dont believe everything i read on the internet, but im new to rving and if you believe that my questions are too stupid to ask then i ask that you move on to the next thread and not impede my search for information to keep me, my family, and others on the road safe by making sure i am not overloading or not having enough truck.
I am a truck driver, i know state and federal weight limits, bridge laws by state, and have probably been thru that illinoise scale a dozen times. Since ive been driving a truck, i have never been ticketed or even pulled in for weight limits. Thats a very hard thing to say when every shipper does their best to overload you.
So, my impression is, if i pull a 13k 5ver with a 3/4 ton dodge, ill probably be ok. However, just because i can, doesnt mean i should.
Thanks to everyone that posted. - fj12ryderExplorer IIISome people build themselves up by demeaning others. I think I see a pretty good example.

Thanks for this post Wadcutter,
I hope this clears this subject up once and for all. I just don't understand why everyone makes something so easy, so hard. :)
Because they don't understand it and incapable of thinking what they're asking before they post.
They listen to some guy wearing a flannel shirt sitting around a campfire who doesn't have the smarts to find a law book let alone read and understand it. This guys spouts all the BS he's read on the internet and injects his own beliefs. Not knowing any different they believe that guy and then when they repeat they feel they have to add their own thoughts as if they were facts.
Then you read a thread like this. Someone asks if they've ever been pulled over for being overweight and 6 people chime in with being pulled over at ag inspection stations as if agriculture inspections is in anyway related. Then 2 more will pop in with 'if you're not commercial then it doesn't matter'. They're also probably wearing flannel shirts around the campfire because they sure haven't read any laws about weights. Then there will be the few who will interject about the federal sticker on the door post as if that's a legal weight restriction. They heard that from the guy in the flannel shirt too.
Probably the biggest problem is the failure of people to think. People might have an idea of their total weights. We see enough threads about someone asking about pulling a 14000 lbs 5ver with their 8000 lbs F-350 with E range tires. But then they can't figure out if they add those 2 weights together they're not even close to being over gross weight limits. Don't even ask them to think it thru and figure it out. It's beyond their capabilities.- 2oldmanExplorer II

That's cute.
Yeah, you're missing a whole lot.
First, read the OP's question. It's easy to find. It's the first post of this thread.
Since this is an RV board, and he posted in fifth-wheels, I assumed it was about RVs. We've seen a lot of weight posts on here, but they've never morphed into anything like this.
