2 Questions for Jayco Greyhawk Owners

I am a owner of a 2017 Jayco Greyhawk 31FS. I just returned from its maiden trip of about 1,800 miles from NJ to Wisconsin and back and it went flawlessly. I do have 2 questions though.

1. Does anyone know how to get the internal speaker that are in the ceiling in living room to work with TV? (or anyway for that matter).

2. I need to purchase wheel valve extenders for the outside dually tire. I was able to remove the wheel cover and get better access to it, but I don't feel like doing that every time to check air or fill up. I was thinking the 135 degree valve extenders would work, but would like an opinion. I think the 190 degree will be too much bend. Hopefully, someone has added these and can assist.

Besides that, the motorhome was better than I expected and we are getting away again this weekend for a trip with the whole family for three days.

Thanks again for any info you can provide....Regards....James

JT

We have surround speakers that works with the DVD player. You can also get the surround speakers to work with the TV by having the DVD on, and using the programming guide in the operators manual to change from the TV speakers to the surround speakers. Really makes an improvement. Wouldn't have been able to figure it out without the operators manual. TV info didn't help. Winnebago is good with information. Check your manual or call Jayco, I bet there is a way.

Our Greyhawk has surround sound that have subwoofer and two speakers under the cabinet above couch, and two where the entertainment is (we don't have the bunk over the cab, that where our tv, DVD, and more storage is. ) but ours only works when we use the DVD player. Other than that, the speakers in the ceiling are only for the dash radio

In our 2009 Greyhawk the TV only plays through the coach speakers when the TV Input is Input 1, which comes from the in-dash DVD player. If we are just watching TV, they do not come through the speakers. Our TV does not have a headphone jack (not one that I have found anyway), so j-d's suggestion wouldn't work for us. I don't think Jayco is using Sharp TVs anymore (I know they aren't in their trailers or Super Cs) so your TV may have that jack.

As for the valve stems, I'd recommend getting a set of Tire-man valve stems. Our Greyhawk came with the braided valve extensions. They worked pretty well, although one of the inner tires needed to be re-seated on the valve stem after a couple years. When we bought new tires earlier this year, I purchased the tire-man valve stems and they work very well. The mechanic didn't charge extra for installing them since they were going on to new tires I purchased through them.

I tried to look up the owner manual for 2017 Greyhawk and only 2016 was online. I searched that, and all I could find was reference to a speaker select switch on or near the command center. No information on what it does.

All our older, entry level, Jayco has is a pair Ford speakers in the cab, a pair under cabinets in the galley/dinette area, and another pair over the head of the rear queen bed. The two Ford ones are "Front" and the four Jaycos are "Rear," connected to and controlled from the dash radio. Our "Outdoor" is a whole separate Radio/Speaker package with a locking cover, like an outdoor shower.

I called Jayco years ago and they sent wiring diagrams for ours. If they'd do that for you, then you'd at least get an idea of the intent of the wiring.

Might be possible to play the TV "through" the dash radio if the radio has an "AUX IN" jack, using a cable from TV's Earphone Jack, like this

DON'T TRY THIS WITHOUT RESEARCH!!! I am not an Electronics Tech! I'm only speculating, and my concern is that the speaker level output power of the TV would overload the input of the Radio. I am not an Electronics Tech!

We're in a 2016 31FK. Cabin speakers play the dash radio only for us. Never got the TV sound to come out of them. It's on my to-do list to goof with it.

In fact, it's also on my todo list to figure out how to *stop* the radio from using them.

Only one of our outdoor speakers is working but that's how I shut up the indoor ones, I turn out "external speakers".

Yes, it has J-Ride. Actually, I have not gotten them to work at all, but I would mostly like to hear the TV (main TV) come over those speakers.

Is your new Greyhawk equipped with J-Ride? I thought they were, and it could well be one of the reasons you like it so much...

No idea about the speaker question. Are you referring to playing the TV through the speakers used by the dashboard radio?

I want to say 135*, but still recommend dually valves. One of the Amazon reviews says 90* is better on Ford wheels. The reviews also say the extenders will cause leaks if not tightened. Which is why I hope you'll do it right the first time with Dually Valves. You don't want any connections to your valve cores, unless the extender is "airless." You know how an air gauge or air chuck depresses the valve core. An airless extender doesn't press your tire valve's core till the gauge or chuck is put onto it. Most extenders press the core when installed and that raises possibility of leaks.

Late Model Ford Dually Valves at CW

If you have metal valves, you "could" get a "straight" air gauge and some "air through" caps. This is a set of 10 on Amazon. NAPA has sets of 04.

Then a "Straight" gauge...
NOT the more common "Angle" gauge...

Problem is, you need an air chuck in the same pattern as the gauge. With Dually Valves, you can check air with any gauge and add air with any chuck.

Trust me, I fought this for literally YEARS with rubber valves and extenders. We have the 1992-2006 wheels with tiny little access holes. Worse than the later model wheels. Dually valves were a wonderful relief. I can check all tires in minutes, and they rarely need air since the valves seal so well.

J-D, I do have metal valves and not rubber. I already have the extenders on the inside valves. I just need to know if 135 degree or 190 degree work better. I appreciate your feedback.

Please don't put any extenders of any kind onto Rubber Valves, if that's what it happens to have. Some of us have come up with improvised solutions, but the best fix is usually custom made specialty valves for the rear tires. One piece, all metal. For the front and spare, all you need is the ordinary metal "truck" valves.

Best deal right now in tire valves is Dually Valves at Camping World. Its a set for the rears and that's all you need. You get the Outers (Curved) the Inners (Straight, Long) and rubber Stabilizers for those long Inners. I'll get back in a little while with a link.
