I am looking at a 34' 2005 Fleetwood expedition this is the first one I have seen used that ticks most of the boxes for what I am looking for. The coach has always been garaged since new according to the seller. I have not seen this one in person but I have a good feeling about it. It is 2.5 hours away so I have tried to get as much info as I can before making the trip. It is for sale by owner. According to the owner it has a 350 HP Cat but when I look at the NADA on it the list only has 300HP Cat he has paper work that says it has an Allison Trans the manual covers the 3000 & 4000 he is not sure which it has he just knows it is a 6 speed. The hitch is marked 10000# which is what I am looking for. The seller says it is in very good condition. Anyone know anything about this model are there issues with this model things to look for???Thanks Mike

Gundog, You can probably lookup the brochure for this particular coach. And, if you find one, it SHOULD tell you what engines and trans were available as both standard and options, based on maybe length etc. At least that's the way it is for Winnebago and Itasca products. Now, at this point, and knowing very little about the Expedition, I'm gonna guess that, because it's the model it is, I'd just about bet it's the 350HP CAT C-7. Those are good motors, in spite of some on here that think they were all bad. If that were the case, there would be dead delivery trucks, fire trucks, cement trucks, over the road trucks and more, not to mention the ZILLION RVs that also have them, all over the country and even outside the country. Proper care of it is essential. Knowing the EXACT amount of oil during a change is imperative. And, I'd also bet that, if it's the C-7 350HP CAT, it's a 19 quart change, including the filter. And, based on the potential fact of it having the C-7 350, I'd also bet it's got the MH3000 6-spd Allison. A great tranny. Most Fleetwood products are outfitted with a rubber roof. Do get a chance to get up on that roof and do a thorough inspection. Most of those rubber roofs hold up pretty good, for a long period of time. And if this coach as you say, has been indoors for storage for most of its life, that roof SHOULD be in outstanding shape. Our last coach was a Fleetwood product. It was a '99 Fleetwood Bounder 34V with the V-10 and F-53 chassis. That of course, was a gas coach but, the fit and finish of that Fleetwood product was very good in my opinion. Had almost no issues with that side of things. It had Power Gear leveling jacks which, I had to rebuild two of them, no big deal. The slide (only one) was also a Power gear and, we had zero troubles with it. The rest of the coach is standard RV suppliers. Atwood heater and water heater, Sureflo water pump, and all that. I've known a few folks with Fleetwood Discoveries and, everyone of them had absolutely great luck with them. One had a '99 with the 275 Cummins and, he put a Banks kit on it and man, was he tough to catch. The other two were an '01 and an '02, both with CAT 3126 engines which, gave them great service. I think I am going to do the drive to see this one. Even the NADA price matches what he is asking. Most of the coaches I have been interested in have been priced way above NADA pricing most 10K-15K above.

I bought a 38N Expedition in 2005, still have it. It’s been a good coach. The usual problems; ride ht valves, couple bad slide motors.I’ll bet a steak dinner it’s a 300 CAT C7. If they tuned it to 350 after factory; beware. The cooling system wasn’t designed to handle it and it didn’t give you any more torque. No complaints with my drive train or chassis, 60K miles.It’s a Allison 3000, which is fine.It’s a TPO, not rubber, roof. If I have any words of wisdom, it’s look for leaks. Look around the shower, end caps, etc.The hitch is rated for 10,000 # BUT a year after I bought it, I got a letter and a new rating label stating it was only good for 5000# unless you added WDHitch, 500# max tongue weight. I remember that making a few buyers angry, didn’t affect me. I towed a 5000# cargo trailer occasionally. BTW, the chassis comes pre wired with seven wire plug including brake power which is buried up in the dash behind the instrument cluster.Other than that, look for tire age $4K, and there is a big maintenance every five years;All fluids eg coolant, ps fluid, diff, trans, belts, air filter, air compressor desiccant, (it’s due hoses) plus oil and filters so I would guess another $5k. My guess is it’s never had it, most don’t.Look at the dash air close too. Any belt whine when you turn it on?Good luck, let us know how it turned out.

Oh yeah, unless being stored inside saved them or they have been repaired, the dual pane windows will be fogged up.Another $2500-$3000.

ACA for Sale ListThen there PPL's published sold prices that make for a good reference for comparing to NADA .... PPL SALESIt's been over two years now and our coach is still worth more at low retail, than what we paid for it.As for asking prices, you can ask anything you want. Getting it may not be so easy. For paying too much over, it's worth a fly and for a maiden voyage on the return home.

The only one I have done so far was the one near the rear of the coach. I just filled that with clean fuel I have not done the other yet. I did change oil today I filled it with 19 quarts started it let it run for a while then checked the level with the dip stick and it showed full to the line. I drained 22 quarts out the guy said he had the oil changed not long ago but did not have paper work to show me so I changed it to know when it was done.

I didn't get my new oil drain pan until about 3 so I did not get started on the transmission yet that I will do after church tomorrow.

The difference between one and two fuel filters is HUGE.

If two, the primary fuel filter (first in line from the tank) should have a 10 to 30 micron element with the secondary fuel filter a Caterpillar 2 micron element.

If only one fuel filter, it has to be a 2 micron element.

Actually that is the only one I did, I did not notice the one up on the engine because until a few minutes ago I had not taken the floor up in the coach to look over the engine and discovered the other filter. I should have know it had 2 I have a 3126 Cat in an old bucket truck I have and it has 2 the same setup. I will have to pick up another filter.

I got my slobber tube extended. I took back the roof cleaner and picked up some Murphy's oil soap. I think I may do the Eternabond tape after watching some videos on the slides and front and back main seams as well as all the penetrations in the roof.

I got some clear sealant to do the other areas from a local RV repair shop I have done business with on past RV's.

Sounds like your off to a start. Did you do the 2nd fuel filter by the leveler pump?

I bought some cleaner designed for RV roofs at wally world I am not sure it is for TPO it does not say I thought I would try a very small area and see how it works. I may go buy the Murphys soap

I worked as an equipment mechanic in my younger days so that part I have experience with.

I called NAPA and asked how much for the trans filters they told me $129 and change so I called the local factory authorized dealer for Allison OEM filters were $57 and the Transynd was $39 a gallon. Needless to say I bought it from them.

I bought a 9 gallon oil pan on wheels and a ball valve drain in it. The drain pan is supposed to be here today so I can get those tasks done. I lubed it already and changed the fuel filter.

I saw a video on the Eternabond tape looks like good stuff the guy removed most of the old sealer if the sealer looks decent can you apply the tape over it?

What date are on the tires. Replacing them becomes costly. Do not just look at the treads.
They dry rot before they wear out.

TPO roof is a flexible material, some people refer to it as rubber, google it.

There is roof cleaner and treatments available. To reseal at all the seams you can scrap off all the old and apply new, you can clean off the old and apply new where it needs it or clean off the old and go over the areas with Eternabond tape, which is what I did.
