86 outside - 82 inside - AC running all day?

2017 Winnebago Sunova 36z with 2 heat pumps. This morning the AC's (both set at 70) started running non stop when it was 77 degrees outside. The temperature in the RV keep rising throughout the day; with both units continually running. The high today was 86 (Cape Hatteras, NC) and inside the RV it is still 82 degrees.

There is "coldish" air blowing through all the roof vents. I don't know if it is not as cold as it should be. We traded in a 2010 Sunstar that also had 2 heat pumps that kept the RV cool in weather like this, and even hotter. The Sonova is 4 feet longer and much bigger inside with 3 slides.

Does this sound normal to you, or do you think we have a problem?

Thanks for any advice on this.

Ken

If you've had it fixed yet, what was the problem?

I have that same issue. turns out one of my A/C's has failed and is due to be replaced tomorrow.. Temps sound exactly like what I'm seeing here,, Just a few degrees below outside So hot I'm eating out in the evening cause ... Well, I'm overheated.

Definitely not right. One A/C should have at least held the temp steady two should have cooled the coach down. Check the temperature difference between the air entering the units and what is being chilled. There are a few variables but I would expect to see maybe a 10 degree difference. With the normally high humidity of the mid Atlantic coast you should have an almost constant draining from the units. I was up the road in Va Beach this weekend and two 13.5 roof units kept my 32' comfortable all weekend.

Does our Sunova have an EMS system? According to the specs, it does. Are you on 50 amp service? IF on 50amp service, does it show 50 amp service? This is critical. You may be on "Cheated" 50 amp service. If on Cheated it will not show 50 amp but 30 amp service. If so, your system probably has a Compressor shed system. If so, that means if NOT on 50 amp service or "cheated" 50 amp service, the compressors will not come ON, but the fans will. Due to the EMS system is only seeing 30 amps and realizes the system does not have the 120 service to run both AC compressors. Doug

You could probably test Doug's theory by unplugging from shore power and starting up your generator to make sure you have full power and see what happens. I'm assuming you have an on-board generator that's at least a 5KW.

Are you sure you have the air conditioning on? Once or twice we set ours to circulate the air by mistake - it sounds like the A/C is on, but it isn't really on - just the fans pushing air around. And if you have it on an "auto" setting, change it to cold. Auto never seems to work as well on ours as using the cold setting. While you shouldn't need to, pull the slides, or at least one of them, in the front room area in until you figure out the problem.

Sorry it's the evaporator that freezes up not the condenser!

To the OP: Make sure the compressor is running. Cycle the system off wait about 5 to 7 minutes, turn it back on. There should be two distinct sounds. 1)The sound of the fan, then after a couple of seconds 2)The sound of the compressor kicking on a low moaning sound.

are you parked in the same spot as before ?

try pulling in the slides in the morning, and keep them in for One day and see if the inside temp is cooler

3 slides create a lot more area to cool

3 slides extended create a lot more surface area exposed to the hot air and sun
3 walls plus roof and floor for each slide

9 more surfaces exposed to the sun (2 ends and a roof) for each slide
does not count the floors and main exterior wall of each slide
(those are exposed to the hot air, but not the sun) the long wall would have sun, retracted or extended, so i;m only counting the NEW surfaces,
but add those surfaces and the square footage, and your asking a LOT from those heat (2) lonely heat pumps

I think you are going to NEED {3} refrigeration type A/C units when it gets really hot
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

That doesn't sound normal to me either. You should be freezing if the temp is only 86 outside and two units have been running all day. Are they 15,000 btu units?

For a 2017 unit, I would imagine that you are under warranty.
