  • We had a rust problem with the tank on our 2001 Adventurer. We used Por15 with a top coat of industrial grey enamel from a spray can.

The stuff isn't cheap @ about $40.00 per quart, but you'll never have to worry about rust again. Our 28 gallon tank took less than a pint for 2 coats. If you can buy it in a pint container it should be more than enough.

NJ is not part of the rust belt. Though with this past winter you might think it is.
  • Mine's 31 years old and still fine. Regulator finally took a dump a few weeks ago, but everything else is fine. Wire brush and some rustoleum goes a long way.

Agree, UNLESS this has been neglected long enough in that "salt on road" environment that there are deep rust pits in the tank. If so, replace it.

Wire brush rusty areas and repaint. Replacing safety relief valve is good idea after 10 yrs. or so. But don't have to replace tank

Propane cylinders on trailers (portable)...no need to replace unless damaged. But they do require re-certification 12 yrs. after mfg. date stamped on collar. Visual inspection good for 5 yrs. then repeat until new regs or cylider doesn't pass re-cert.
