A/C question????

I never gave my A/C a break while I was living in Mesa AZ.

You might want to run it in 'fan on' position, so that any frost that is on the indoor coil will thaw out while the compressor is not running.

I know that the first night that I park the RV, the engine puts a lot of heat into the front compartment. The next day is much cooler!

And I always run the rooftop A/C and generator while driving when it is over 90F outside.

one AC might not keep your RV cool in that heat. We had a 31' Winnebago with one AC and it never cooled down below high 80's in Arizona. Not comfortable. We went to Home Depot and purchased rolls of the silver quilted insulation and put it over all the windows and skylights. Helped some. You can expect to get 20-25 degrees cooler than the outside temperature. Another option is to go to places that have AC like shopping, libraries, campground rec rooms during the day and back to the RV at night. Good news is that at night it cooled fine and we slept great.

Depending on the setting, it probably will shut off for a bit late evening or early am? I've been in very hot weather and wake up to quietness at night often. My setting is 77-78.

its not that old of a unit, its a 2008 same year as the trailer but the trailer has not been used much since it was bought. its all cleaned out and new filter, so i guess I will let it RUN BABY RUN.

Run it! Once you lose the cool, it takes a long time to regain it. I would shut it off for a few minutes ever 3-4 days and clean the small intake filter though. They work much more efficiently when the filter is clean.

Run, baby, Run! Doing anything else will leave you wishing you had! If you don't have a cool RV after the 1st day, go by Home Depot and pick up a portable A/C unit for around $200. It exhausts through a side window and will dramatically increase your cooling capacity. For future use, your coach is likely wired to add a 2nd roof A/C unit. If you think you may do this from time to time you might be happier by adding the 2nd A/C unit.

I would run it if it's in good condition.

A friend of ours rented a small apt. in Newport Beach, CA, that doesn't have air. She bought a portable air unit at Costco or Sam's and had the maintenance guy install it.

It is SO nice and blows very cold air. They had to put a panel in the sliding glass door so that the vent hose could exit. Very nice install, you don't even notice that the sliding door is not closed all the way. Being on the third floor, security is not an issue.

You might want to think about a portable unit to add to your exiting unit.

I have a 38 foot class A, 2 A/C's and I'm stuck in S.E. GA with temps pushing 100 and heat index around 10-15 degrees higher (in short I melt).

I also have two feline fur kids.

I sometimes shut the smaller one off at night but have recently changed it from HIGH to Automatic... The way my rig is ventelated this has advantages.

But the rear one has been running constantly, save when we have power fails for several months now... (power fails, we have had two this year, 3 last year, unplanned, and 2 each month that last precisely 3 minutes (Can you say generator exercise).

They are designed to run, so run it. If you turn it off then it will have to run that much longer to cool things down and it may actually never get it cool enough. if you turn it off and the temp climbs to 100+ inside the mh then it will be hot all night. It is far better to get it cool, keep it cool, then to try to cool down an oven.

run it. In this heat, when you turn off it will never recover. It has a fan to keep the air moving. Clean the coils on top before you get out here and enjoy.
