Campground in or around New Orleans

FQRV is a very small park inside a 10ft brick wall with barbed wire on all sides sitting in a very bad part town and under the I-10 freeway. Very noisey. And while the property inside the wall is nicely kept, the surrounding area is NOT and not safe walking area after dark. We spent a few nights there and left early as we did not like parking inside a prison compound with the freeway noise all night long. Will not go back. Owners were nice enough and the park faciliies did work. Lots of unsavory types just outside the gates. We did not feel all that safe there.

I live about a mile from Fontainebleau State Park. I drive to New Orleans every day and it takes about 45 minutes to the French Quarter. I used to ride my bike through the park all the time. Beautiful place with a beach, cottages and group camping. Mandeville is a small bedroom community with great restaurants and it is very safe. Check out the park by searching google. It gets great reviews on Tripadvisor.com.

I have stayed at the KOAs in Slidell and on the West side of NO. both are fine. easier to get to down town from the west side however.

We did Pontchartrain Landing & really enjoyed it. Great sites & great people. You can always step over to the bar area & get a drink & watch some World Cup. :-)

+1 for FQRV resort ! We don't go during prime time or special events and while i agree its expensive, i don't think you can beat it....no way could you stay in a hotel that close to the quarter for anything near that price.

The place is SAFE, CLEAN & everyone is very nice & friendly - we've stayed here twice & we'll stay there again.

Its nice that the folks at FQRV Resort will take you a few blocks (to the visitors center / police station) via golf cart so you can safely walk the 3 blocks to the quarter or the french market / water front....when you're done, just call them and they come pick you up. Cabs to Bourbon Street & the French Market are less than 10 bucks, so even when you don't want to walk its less hassle than parking.

We've been researching this as well for a trip next year. I've seen several recommendations for the French Quarter RV Park, but nobody ever mentions cost - so I looked. I thought parks here in California were expensive, but I'd have to have a REALLY good reason to want to spend almost $100 a night for a parking space!

I understand what you are saying. You want a RV park to get out of the city and have your own entertainment in the RV park. I've seen other parks that do that and it can be a popular venue.

As many times that I've been to New Orleans to experience the "Quarter"...(at least 10 times over 25 yrs.) I've never felt unsafe (typical tourist, right?). Maybe being a male makes a difference?

I did try out the pool at the New Orleans Resort, very relaxing. One thing that you have there that we don't in TN or CA, are those darn love bugs that just cover the front of the coach. What a mess! LOL!

We stayed here for 30 a night. It was great, easy access to the French Quarter via bus and car.
