I bought everything I need to go from my 50amp on Motor Home down to the 20amp GFI on the outside of the house. But when I hook up with power off on camper, the GFI keeps kicking out and it does not matter which end I hook up first. What else can I do without going to a 50amp plug in? Appreciate any help. thanks

I go from 50 amp to 20 amp all the time because my RV is stored inside. I plug a 20 amp heavy extension cord directly into my 50 amp RV line with the usual step down connections. Never have had a circuit flip out. Perhaps your 20 amp GFI circuit needs to be replaced.

Are you saying the 50 adapter all by itself trips the GFCI? Or is it the RV that trips it?

What happens if you plug something else with a pretty heavy draw, like a portable heater or a hair dryer, into that GFI? Should help you pin down the faulty bit.

What happens if you plug something else with a pretty heavy draw, like a portable heater or a hair dryer, into that GFI? Should help you pin down the faulty bit.

The RV even with power off. I have the 50amp cord going down to the heavy duty cord and when it is pluged in the GFI trips.

Works just fine. No problems there. Just the RV.

I even plugged it in the house without a GFI and it sparked and would not take it. Never been to a park let and plugged into a 50amp.

Check to make sure the male and female extentsion (inside the plug)wiring is secure and have good contact with the screws.

This scares me. Get an electrician involved.

Until I read this post, I thought you just had a GROUND/NEUTRAL connection somewhere in the RV.

All the exterior outlets on my house are GFCI as well. Are you sure yours is actually 20 amp? They might be 15 amp. At any rate when I used to plug my 50 amp hookup with the step down connections to a 15 amp GFCI, it would always trip the GFCI. So, I just wired my own 50 amp plug directly to my outside breaker panel. This is the best way to do it.

I Had he same thing happen and nothing helped until I swapped out the GFI or a regular outlet. Now I have a 50 A receptecal.

It almost seemed like my garage GFI didn't like the GFI's in the MH or the inverter, or the transfer switch, or ???. I had the coach checked thoroughly for any problems and it was proclaimed perfect so there is something else going on that no one could explain very well.
