Intermittent electrical problem when starting
We just returned from a 10 day trip 600 miles from home. We had one problem, and I have never had this happen before. Occasionally when I turn the key to start the engine I will hear the starter solenoid click but then nothing happens, so I use the aux. start switch to start it.
Then other times it will click on the first attempt and then turn over nice and strong, as normal, on the second attempt. Once when this happened I used the aux. start switch and it acted the same way, using the house batteries. I have not had a chance to check it yet, but I suspect that the cable terminal on the starter might be corroded or dirty. Has anyone else had this problem with a 2001 F53 V10?
This has happened both when starting the engine after stopping briefly at a rest area, and when starting it cold after having been parked for several days, plugged into shore power. The chassis battery is a year old. My scan gauge shows between 13.6 and 14.4 volts while driving. The house batteries are several years old, but have plenty of power to operate the slides, start the gen. power the lights nice and bright and start the engine.
Any thoughts from anyone?
Thanks,
Roland
