ISO 4x4 Class C

I'm looking for any info relating to class C RVs with 4-wheel drive. Am looking for a friend. I own a class B so am not too familiar with what is out there in the class C world but having looked online for a while they seem hard to find. Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated. TIA

Okay..I shall revisit the spacer thing. Maybe come spring I'll have pix of the rv on Washington beach.

I wouldn't have a 4x4 motorhome if I listened to everyone else's advice (it'll never drive on sand; it'll frame up, etc). As for the rear spacers, solid aluminum and never an issue. They make them for a reason.....and driving on the sand with low air pressure ensures that the tires don't rub the sidewalls! One sharp shell between two rubbing tires is a flat on a sandy beach (not good!). My rig is 28' and appears the same as yours, Gary. As stated, the best enjoyment for me is the days/nights on a beautiful beach providing a comfort zone when the winds pick up or rain starts down.

Take a look at this website:

http://ujointoffroad.com/

They've done conversions on more than a few C's. The way these campers are made, I wouldn't try any rock-crawling, but I'd love to have four wheel drive to get on the dunes or beach!

You already have the winch, so just get a pull pal and you can get yourself unstuck if necessary. There are plenty of devices out there to help get even the heaviest of vehicles unstuck.

If I saw a big truck out on the sand and could chat with them...get some idea of their skill set and willingness, I'd be on that. But..to just go driving and hoping for the best..in this case, isn't in my comfort zone.

Careful driving, 20lbs of air pressure, and I also have a 3" spacer between my rear dually tires for a wider footprint. 13 years on the sand and never been stuck (yet and been through some very soft and wet conditions when a storm shows up without notice. I avoid the "baby powder" sand whenever possible or areas completely churned up by too many other 4x4's especially making sharp turns....don't be afraid, you're missing out on some great times. Plus, there's always the local 4x4 tow truck operator is needed. Unless you frame it down, most situations can be fixed with a shovel and tow strap.

Man..I wanted spacers but my local tires shop nixed that. I forget the reason..but was enough to steer me clear.

Your comment about 4x4 tow truck is accurate enough but Gary can be particularly bull headed and 'focused'..I'd be on a rising tide and in a freakin hole. I have all the recovery gear I'd need..but I would have to have a big pull truck to get me going. Not some piddly assed pick-up. I don't know if it makes a difference but here on the west coast, the chances of a private big rig are few.

Unless it is specifically designed for soft sand keep clear of it. I have seen Caravans towed over some soft sand. Smaller Motorhomes have no problems with semi soft and hard sand

Can't figure out how to post photos anymore on this sight?? Searching for a converted 4x4 motorhome is like hens-teeth; just not around. My rig is very similar to Gary's above and I'm sure he enjoys his as much as I do mine. Priceless experience to be on a beach with what I considered the "best beach house with endless views" no matter where I chose to fish. If I ever need to sell it, driving along the shoreline with a "for sale" sign will surely get a willing buyer. Hope that day never comes..........

Many members prefer to talk the big money. I am of a different faith so try and find ways to get as much for my hard earned cash as I can. There is a company in the US that manufactures kits...U-Joint Off Road...a person needs to have a shop and skills, but I have typed with guys that have done it and they like it. The one I bought had been converted by a shop in Kamloops, BC, Kamloops Light Truck...(you can Facebook them) The cost of that is around 22,000 CDN.

If you have any questions, by all means, ask away.Gary Haupt

Hope you didn't mind me posting it!

I saved a copy of it years ago, because it has been a dream of mine to have a 4x4 Class C like yours. If you still have it, when you go to sell it I sure would like first pick!

Hell no I don't mind. I was going to post some but then discovered my free pic hosting site has gone they way of all good things. I am on the search for my next one..in the meantime...should I decide to re-owner it, I will let you know.
