Limiting large vehicles to 68 MPH

Typical of government. Come up with some emotional reason why greater government intrusion is necessary, and then when people question it, respond with comments like, why are you against something that will save lives, save gas, whatever...

Just like controlling other aspects of our lifes, such as healthcare.. Why are you opposed to health care for everyone? Don't you think everyone should be taken care of? And leave out the fact that those of us who pay taxes end up paying for all that health care. Pick your issue, and those who want big government will find some reason why the government needs to do more.

Im so sick and tired of government overreach.

We get passed by a LOT of vehicles. Only time I feel it is when a bus passes at 80 or more. I run the speed limit and these buses blow by us a lot of times. Pretty powerful machines.

Or as sanity would dictate end interstate trucking and return to train cargo with local truck terminal delivery.

I'm old enough to remember small delivery trucks and more people employed in that industry

68 hmmm tragic 2 mph lower than now in some states. What should happen in confiscation of vehicles driving over the 68-70 mph limit.

Some think they have the right to go any speed. They have no right to kill me or my family by their disregard for safety. If one is in need of arriving earlier leave sooner of fly.

With proper planning and funding by trucking company fuel taxes, we should have build separate truck only lanes for the Interstate highways.

I normally drive 55-60 due to MPG issues (it drops like a rock over 60).

Probably the reason I rarely see a truck over 65 in the western states I cross regularly, fuel costs are a major 'cost of sales' for a trucking company. It would help to verify operators are documented citizens.

As a big rig driver ( part time ) I want to put in my 2 cents worth. I did not read the article, but I can tell you one problem with the speed control on large fleets. One truck is limited to 68 mph. Another is set at 681/2, so he pulls out to pass and stays in the left lane for the next 5 miles with traffic backed up behind both because neither one will be considerate and not become a rolling road block. There are professional drivers and there are jerks out there.

Essentially that is exactly what they are proposing just at a lower level commensurate with the tire rating. However, I don't believe the NHSB has the authority to set a national speed limit for all trucks and RV's. Commercial vehicles OK but private ones not so much and besides, RV tires do not necessarily have the 75 mph max speed ratings. I also suspect that any actual ruing that comes our will set a max but individual states could set it lower. Any ruling is still left to the states for enforcement.

IIRC, their "authority" for the double nickle was by withholding federal funds for roads if they did not comply. non-believers came around quickly.

Witholding federal highway funds was the same 'authority' the federal government used to coerce states into making 21 the drinking age in each state in the early 80's.
