Louisville

Headed south this week. Taking 3 thru most of Indiana to avoid I-69 & I-65. Sadly we need to get back on that awful I-65 at Seymour. Friends who traveled it a couple weeks ago said its disasterous on a motorhome but no choice. We usually try to go thru Louisville on a weekend but are unable to do so this time. There is the question; by-pass around Louisville or continue to go straight thru? Thanks in advance.
  • i guess you mean HW 31, not '3' ?

I grew up there in So. Indiana

last trip was 2012, so i can't comment on current road conditions of I-65

but the BYpass will be about double the miles of driving thru Louisville on I-65

nothing i ever driven was as bad as i-40 thru Az, that was the most beat up piece of HW i have ever driven, it just beat us to death when we crossed it in 2012
don't know what its condition is now, but i sure hope they repaved the whole damm thing
  • You mean loo-a-ville (or is it loo-a-vul).

Straight thru always worked for me, too many extra miles the other way. Only take a by-pass if you are changing direction. ie...south to east/west, use by-pass to avoid town.
  • No, I meant 3. Great road. The darn bridge construction has been a real problem and obviously will continue to be.
    Thanks for the feedback.
  • I drove South on I-65 on Friday Oct. 9th from Columbus to I-64 on my way to Lexington with no problems. We returned home on Wednesday Oct. 14th and still no problems did I see on the Southbound lanes.
  • if you really want to bypass Louisville you could take 421 out of Greensburg and cross the river at Madison then stay on 421 to Bedford,ky and either stay on 421 to 71 or we take 42 on up to silgo and take 153 to 71. Then you can hit the Gene Snyder bypass around Louisville. Roads are a little curvy thru Kentucky but a nice scenic drive.
  • I was on I-65 last January and found no reason to avoid it. Point A to point B and nothing of any interest that I could report much less consider it unfit for RVers.
  • Thanks for everyone's input. We'll probably tough it out and go through. Thought about the Madison way but we have a 42' MH towing a full sized pick-up. Didn't want the curvy roads. Again, thanks to all.
