and because you've never tried or done it then it must NOT be fine to do ??? SHEESH !
silly thing about forums....people SHARE their experiences and then you learn new things and can try them yourself ! :S - msmith1199Explorer II

Disclaimer: I'm no expert on this and you may be right. However, what I do know is when the slide is either fully in or fully out the lip of the slide is firmly pushed up against the side of the motorhome all the way around. When it's partially open that pressure is not there. So moving about in the motorhome in and out of the slide may cause movement of the slide. Will that cause any damage? I have no idea. It does seem like it may, but I wouldn't know for sure.
i have left my slides 1/2 to 3/4 of the way extended (and my coach has deeper slides then most diesel pushers)...ive never seen any sign of damage, unusual wear or flexing of any kind.
my coach is close to home & i been doing upgrades on the coach for quite some time off & on...i walk in and out and all around the coach (including being on the roof) - AND i keep our coach on the jacks with at least 1 or 2 inches of air gap under the tires (to prevent flat spotting of the tires).

We will be living it over the winter(in west/central Oregon). We are under a roof built for a 5th wheel, so the side supports prevent us from extending it fully.
I should have been a bit more clear with my post. Will not extending it fully damage the rail system?. Seems to me that if it's not fully extended, there is less overhanging the side and there would be less stress on the slideout. We can deal with it not being sealed by sealing it in other ways.
Thanks!
Brad

- 427435ExplorerThe OP should check with a contractor or good carpenter. There may be a way to make simple changes tot the roof support to allow all the slides to fully open. Maybe replace one support that is in the road with two and a header beam.
- bshpilotExploreri store mine in a fully enclosed bay - i always extend my slides at least a few inches to allow the seals to expand (no need for them to be completely compressed all the time).
as for critters - i spray the parameter of my storage bay floor a few times a year to keep the bugs out & i do not store the coach with any food inside....i do keep beer cold in the basement electric cooler though :D draboo wrote:

No. it will not damage the rail system. Dougljr869 wrote:
I have 2 slides and they are both different. One is straight in-n-out with rubber gaskets that seal it the entire time regardless of its position. The other has a little ramp that it slides down into just prior to full extension. That's the only thing that seals it. If that slideout is not fully in or out, it's not sealed. However, the structure of the entire RV isn't designed for a slide to not be fully extended.
1. The "wipe" seals you see are not designed to fully seal partially in or out
2. There is NO structure that can be damaged by partially leaving a slide not fully extended. Doug
