and nary a mention of it in either of our daily newspapers this morning. shameful. thanks to all of the vets who have served and to those who gave it all.

My local paper had an article on Pearl Harbor, but from a Japanese perspective. To us of course it was a tragic day and significant in that it got us into "The War". But from the Japanese people's point of view it was just another battle as they had been at war for a number of years on many fronts. Little did the common Japanese they awoke a sleeping giant that would eventually kick their collective butts.

I've visited Pearl Harbor on several occasions and am amazed at that after 73 years there is still oil bubbling up from the Arizona, and that a bit of mist seeps into my eye's from somewhere.

Dec 7th 1941, them ol boys come to the US & kicked our tails for a short while. A short while afterwards though, we paid them back big time.

The same kind of thing in a round about way is happening today through imports, but nobodys paying any attention.

J-Rooster, my Dad is a WWII veteran and I will be seeing him tonight (almost 94 yrs. old) so I'll tell him that he is not forgotten and is appreciated .

A good friend of mine (a true Hawaiian) was 14 and living in Honolulu when the bombs started falling. What a terrible scene she describes that day (age 87 and very active) and remembers everything like it was yesterday.

Having served during one war is enough for me. I pray that our recently elected officials have the wisdom to avoid all foriegn entanglements. Maybe then we could spend our money repairing this country rather than some other country.

My father served in the Army in WWII. He was an anti-aircraft gunner in the Philippines. Twice his gun was strafed by Japanese fighters, killing 3 of the 4 man crew. A humble man of the greatest generation, I didn't even know he was awarded the Legion of Merit, the 6th highest award in the Army (just below the Silver Star) until after he passed away. We should all thank God for the bravery bestowed upon the fine men and women who served in World War II.

I talked to a 10th grader yesterday and she didn't know the date. Just a vague understanding of the events. I asked her what they were studying in history now, and she said, "The Progressive Era". She is almost a straight A student. Kids these days are being indoctrinated. Critical thinking skills are not even considered.

Both of my parents (and two uncles) were in the Navy during that war- in fact, that's how my folks met. All are gone now. And as a matter of fact, Mom died just one year ago today...gone to join the rest of her old Navy crew on Pearl Harbor Day!

We were at Pearl Harbor in May. They have a row of special parking up front for survivors. It saddened me greatly to see that even on a busy day, all of these spots were unused.
For me it was a life long goal to visit.
My dad is gone now but was there during the attack. He and another fellow climbed onto a roof next to Hickam Field to set up a large caliber gun. While doing so, they were strafed and my fathers friend was hit directly in the head, killing him instantly.
My dad continued to shoot under fire as long as he ammo.
He was awarded two Bronze stars - one for this incident and one for some other event I'm unclear of.
The events of that day never left my dad. It changed him forever though he almost never spoke of it. It was only during the last year of his life he told his story to me.
After PH he marched into the Philippines under MacArthur.
It's clear to see shy they are called the greatest generation.
