SAT t.v won't work San Diego Silver Strand Fiddler's Cove

hi there,my new friend cannot get his sat t.v. dish to work here. we are located at Fiddler's Cove Military Marina and RV park at the southern end of the campground near Coronado. Someone thought maybe the Navy Ships or some part of the government systems maybe Interfering. Some folks near the Northern end of the campground I think are doing better or can get reception. Any advice or help would be awesome...
  • This may be antidotal data but after my FIL retired he volunteer @ Whidbey Isl. NAS. When he got his new Cadillac he would take it to the base. As you know NAS is a base for a lot of electronic warfare squadrons. When he would leave the base his On-Star would contact him and inquire if he needed assistance because "they lost communication" with him. Some enlisted personnel told he "yep it happens". Also he may have problems with his automatic door lock/unlocking and to always carry a key.

It might be interesting for you to contact base Public Information and get their take. Don't settle for the standard "it;s not us" answer.
  • If you cannot get your Sat to work you should get a bunch of over the air reception from there.
  • We've spent a great deal of time at Bernardo Shores RV just down the street from you. We have had no problem with satellite reception.
  • Closer to satellite there, could be his reciever isn't set right for S. CA thus it won't set the antenna at the proper angle. Tell him to call DISH.

There are several reasons a Sat system might not work.

Radar Detectors (Some makes) can cause broadband Radio Interference (Perhaps the manager has one in his car?) shadow of trees or buildings... I get blamed from time to time but I'm 100% sure that it's not my antenna or radio. (Mostly because I get blamed for causing interference when I'm not even ON the radio).

Sometimes moving a few feet makes a difference.

There is a app for your smart phone (Search for Sat Finder) that will let you "Look" toward the satellite.. You see anything other than blue sky on the screen, that's your problem (Make sure you center the cross hairs)

Or you can use an Align-a-Site to do it as well.
  • Keep trying. Sometimes it's just more difficult, for unknown reasons. I highly doubt the Navy is to blame.
