Vent mode on..Rant mode on..

Through just accident, I found out that the IOTA 50R transfer switch used in my coach was recalled by Navistar, and many other coach manufacturers as loads made the contacts burn and possible fire could occur..Someone with a Fifth Wheel posted his burnt in a fire and I looked and sure enough..pulled the cover and saw burn marks on the bus...yep...accident waiting to happen..this thing almost went up in flames and it sits in the driver electrical bay...we could have went up and probably not far from it...I called Monaco support...the gentleman said YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN, Navistar bears no responsibility for pre Navistar RV...however, in my opinion, Navistar should have either A> TOLD ME ABOUT IT....B> Do the right thing and replace it

I sure have given them business from getting some parts for my coach plus you have all records from it...

When ASV took over , they should have at least notified me, the original owner....of an issue.....

Replacing switch now after it failed....

I should consider another Monaco coach?????.Sorry Mike Snell.your company's desire to put a small amount of dollars ahead of my life, behind a legal shield..not doing what is ethically and morally right, is costing you my future business....

CHECK YOUR TRANSFER SWITCH for IOTA 50R

To the person who posted about this...THANK YOU...

rgatjinet: For starters Navistar does not own Monaco anymore. The bankruptcy judge should never have approved that sale. Navistar had board members who were already on the Monaco board. This whole deal was fixed. You did not mention that at the last minute Navistar realized that they were buying Roadmaster as a whole company. Then Navistar had the judge toss Roadmaster in as a sort of bonus. My details may not be 100% accurate but they are close! Navistar is and was a sleazy outfit. Notice that FW was bought by ASV. Same deal. They only bought assets. They also continued providing warranty to any of the previous owners. Navistar stole the company. The partially completed and fully completed units were worth a lot of money. Toss in the real estate at 30 cents on the dollar and you are over the purchase price. But this is water under the bridge. That was almost 5 years ago. I just don't want anyone to think that Navistar was some sort of knight on a white horse rescuing a damsel in distress. They did nothing to add value to the Monaco name! Nor did they preserve what little bit of the Monaco name that was left. ASV has started to build new 2015 Monacos and maybe things will change. A big maybe.

See above..WRONG!!....Monaco/Navistar only sent out recall notices and only corrected the coaches built since the date they got Monaco for next to nothing...those built before that date, despite using the very same part were not recalled NOR NOTIFIED of the problem since due to the way it was handled legally Navistar was not responsible for any coaches prior to the date they purchased the assets. My big pet peeve of this is that I wasn't even notified nor any other 2009 or prior Monaco owners who had the very same switch...They knew about it and would not even spend the postage to tell us about it.

Well, lets see what the truth is. Monaco was bankrupt. They were going to close everything and there would be zero support for ANY Monaco products from that date on, period. Production had already ceased at all assembly plants and people were terminated.
Now Navistar comes along and for $47 MILLION the bankruptcy judge agreed to the purchase and Navistar resumed production of certain products and put some people back to work. The United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, Bankruptcy Judge Kevin J. Carey approved the terms for a final Sale Order on May 22, 2009.
It is important to note that any Monaco products built before their bankruptcy would have become orphans, all employees would have been out of work, thus ending ANY support for their products in the future. For $47 MILLION, Navistar agreed to assume liability for all products built after their acquisition and put some people back to work in manufacturing. The also still provide limited support for any products built before they took over even tho they had no LEGAL obligation to do so, according to the agreement by the bankruptcy judge. Naturally any other company could have stepped up and maybe provided better terms but, the facts were, Navistar was the ONLY ONE that did make a financial commitment.
If your 2009 coach was built before Navistar bought Monaco, YOU bought an orphan and are in the same boat as any other buyer who bought a coach prior to any company going bankrupt. It would be nice to have lifetime support for all products, but that is not the way it works when a company goes belly up. Navistar/Monaco does offer help to anyone that calls about a product that was built prior to their bankruptcy. They do not have to offer this assistance but they do. They also did not have to maintain the Monaco and HR name, but they did.
The facts are Monaco was in the toilet and ONLY Navistar is keeping their name alive. The customer support for older products is limited, but better than nothing. There are several RV manufacturers that are gone completely. I would guess the fact that the Monaco name is still around has had a POSITIVE impact on the value of your coach.
You can continue to bash Navistar but the truth is that you are better off with their acquisition.
The real problem is with IOTA, who manufactured the defective transfer switch, NOT the company that stepped in and has kept many people working and the Monaco and HR names alive. Did you get a notice from IOTA? :R

Have we resorted to quoting our own posts now? :B

Has anyone died from a fire that the IOTA caused? Or is that just part of the dramatic effect to fluff up the complaint?

Not meant to bash anyone, but...

12 months after the new sale date, the warrantee has run it's course, and anything that comes up is THE OWNERS PROBLEM!

This issue with the iota tranfer switch is long time ongoing (I have one, problem free so far, knock on wood.) It was a voluntary recall, and however it was handled is long past.

If you have one, check it and fix it.

That is the main thing...that you are safe and the problem is taken care of. After any bankruptcy you can't assume that all customer information is made available to the new company. Navistar may or may not have any sales info that was forwarded to them from the dealers that sold the coach, especially during the tough months leading to the actual bankruptcy.

No notice from IOTA but I did call them..they went into the same type of reorg that Navistar did to Monaco and were picked up by a holding company and no longer make this switch or anything like it..
The bottom line being I'm good, I'm safe and I intend to enjoy my coach. I had just wish Navistar spent 45 cents to let me know about it so I could do due diligence without it having to almost go up like it did.

I posted those pictures of the burnt transfer switch a while back. LOL. Camping World replaced it on my old Raptor for free. Now with the Palazzo, The Transfer switch, which almost caught the Raptor on fire, seems like small potatoes compared to all the problems I am having with the Palazzo.:h

WOW, guy voices an opinion and immediately gets crucified. We are here to help each other, not slam a guy for a post. This forum has turned into one guy bashing another. sure, everyone has an opinion, but HELP the guy. I have been on this forum for lots of years and just started noticing the derogatory responses.
Try to be a little more sympathetic to someone's problem.

Other than going and physically replacing his transfer switch, I think the OP got as much HELP as humanly possible. He was given the recall info along with the 800 number to call. He was told about how others have received information about this problem on other forums. He was told by one member here, who used the 800 number, exactly how it worked for him. Not once did the OP say thanks for the HELP.
Basically to me it just appears that the OP had an ax to grind and nothing anyone said was going to change that. Personally I think that if he didn't receive a recall notice it was because he was traveling or there was some other reason it got lost in the mail. Other owners acknowledged they did receive their recall notices so it is obvious Monaco/Navistar sent them out.
The OP can continue to bash Monaco/Navistar but it looks like they did address the problem back in March 2012.

I don't take it as a bashing..most people don't realize exactly what Moisheh brought to light...the fact is Navistar got the assets without the liabilities which gave them the right to scr** the old Monaco owners and the dealers, yet use the very same products with the very same people building and servicing them. At the same time, Navistar got our records, lock, stock and barrel and the right to sell us parts for a profit...the same very parts that were used in our coaches regardless of the owners. Now because of the legal stuff, they got to simply disavow us regardless of our safety, even though they knew our safety was compromised. This very same debacle happened to every owner of an RR4R chassis with the very expensive trailing arms fiasco. I just wish that somehow the use of the old name and the old logo and the very same people in the very same facility using the very same parts then gave them an implied liability to ensure safety. Instead due to the very antics of the famous 3 stooges lawyers, (Dewey, Cheatam, and Howe), a huge corporation got to try an RV adventure for next to nothing, leaving many people and legitmate businesses up the creek in its wake, and yet makes money upon its exit. Now that my coach is safe,I intend to enjoy it. Amazingly enough, the fact that I was not worth the cost of the postage by Navistar to at least enlighten me about this when it came to be will weighed in my decision on my next coach..same president before, during and after the Navistar thing too which only adds insult to injury. I truly want to see the Monaco/HR name continue as it will keep our coaches from becoming paperweights. I'm done...again, thank you to the fifth wheel person that posted this info and I am truly sorry you had a fire...my switch was at critical mass, and I believe you might have saved mine and my wife's life, not to mention anyone else's or my dogs.
