Two Fuel Pumps?

Can anyone tell me if there are two fuel pumps on a 2001 Minnie Winnie E 450 Super Duty? Motor cranking but no fuel getting to the engine. Not even getting to the fuel filter. Still trying to test wires to see if power is reaching fuel pump but we are not getting a good reading. And getting shocked off the sides of the motorhome. Any help would be appreciated!

Getting Shocked: There is serious danger of electrocution. If your rig is connected to a home electrical system, disconnect immediately, the wall receptacle may be wired improperly, have it and the RV checked by an electrician. Our house receptacle was wired wrong, RV was wired OK.

My RV is hooked up to a meter at an RV Park, r u saying that the meter is the problem?

I actually have changed the fuel filter. Thanks. And no there is not a fuel pump there.

On the older Fords, the FUEL FILTER is right after and next to the front fuel pump under the driver's seat.

I am guessing if you don't know where the pump is, you've never changed the filter (!)

Might be an easy fix 😉

Something worth a try - while someone cycles the ignition, give the tank a good whack repeatedly with a 2x4 (ideally right under the fuel pump) and see if it brings the pump to life. The jostling may be just enough to shake a worn motor commutator into position to spin up again.

I had that happen to a Chevy pickup that began showing signs of starting issues. Was out camping one day and it failed to start, no fuel pump noise. That trick brought it to life sufficient to get to the shop.

It is about time RV manufactures fit a sealed access cover to the top of fuel tanks the same as cars have!

This is not a good test! It only indicates or could indicate no power to the pump.

To check the fuel pump on any fuel injected vehicle do this.

Have a friend turn the ignition key but do not start or crank the engine you get under the vehicle, place the palm of the hand on the tank, some tanks have a protective metal shield so make sure it is the tank, have the friend turn the key several times while he counts 3 seconds 1001, 1002, 1003 and then turn key off and repeat several times.

If there is no vibration and no hum, the pump is toast!

Here is my post when I tore down the Fuel pump .
This post has a link to the original replacement project.

It is not a hard job, but you do need space under the unit and a suitable jack. Even after emptying the fuel down to a quarter tank using the genny pickup, it will still contain 15-20 gallons. There is quite a reserve when the gauge shows empty....

Some 1980's vintage Fords with fuel injection, had two pumps. A low-pressure in-tank pump supplied a high-pressure pump in the chassis rail.

By your year, a 2000 or 2001 E450, only a high pressure in-tank pump. These pumps do NOT allow fuel to flow through them when they aren't running. In other words, you can't connect an external pump in the middle of the tank-to-engine fuel line and have it draw fuel from a dead pump. If the pump IS bad, tank has to come down, unless there's some clever way to get at the top of the tank from the side or inside the coach.

ok so i did have a cut in my shore power cord, which we have now taken care of so hopefully that will take care of the shocking issue. But as to the whirring, we are not hearing anything. And we are waiting on a friend to come back out and check to see if the power is reaching the fuel pump. My main concern was if there were two fuel pumps and where the second one would be. We have looked and did not see one but just wanted reassurance. I know realistically we are gonna have to lower that darn fuel tank that is full of gas.....plus i am sunk in the mud a bit on that side so we are gonna have some fun! Thanks!

Can you hear a whirrrr for a bit (5-7 seconds) when you turn on the ignition? (Not to start, just to on position)
If not, it is dead.
Most Ford fuel pumps die at 10-15 years. Mine did, and I posted pics with the post when a friend and I swapped the pump one cold January day. I had odd start problems before it quit. Fortunately it was in the barn at home during one of my monthly starts.
