Can't get my DTV satellite to work..

I use a Vuqube Flex VQ2100, all automatic hook up the wires and let the receiver do it's thing. :B

You have to love it when a Dish customer posts on a DirecTV topic. It's of no value to anyone and questions whether the poster was even paying attention.

I use a tailgater, all automatic hook up the wires and let the receiver do it's thing.

I usually hook up the system. Turn on the TV set, the sat receiver menu to the sat meter program, turn up the volume go out swing the dish and in just a few swings I have a signal lock on the sat. Works great for me, wither I am going for just 101 when away from my home area, or shooting for 101 & 119 in my home area. However I do have a modified dish.

Of course, that assumes that you (or someone) can see that signal at the same time you are pointing the antenna. This is usually quite difficult or challenging to a marriage (no, no, no, no, yes, STOP, no, go back, no, no, ARE YOU LISTENING, no, yes, STOP, go back, WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU, no, no, no......I hope you plan to take me to dinner! You are so stupid, why do you make me do this?)

Try using Directv's meter on the TV.

The normal starting point for the needle on the meter is the center. Before you begin to point the antenna you would adjust the DB to get the needle centered. As you move toward the satellite the needle will peg over to max. Adjust the DB until the needle is again centered and adjust a bit more. Repeat as many times as necessary. Once you get to a point where no matter how you move the antenna the reading drops, you are pointed exactly right. Since the meter does not know what satellite you are trying to locate, if you don't now have a signal on the satellite box, you are pointed at the wrong satellite.
All of this assumes that you have the receiver setup correctly. If you are moving from a home antenna setup to a portable setup the 2 setups are nearly always incompatible so doing the proper receiver setup before going to the signal meter is required.

If you can't get the needle to move (other than the gain control) then you have no signal. Maybe the LNB is bad. Also, the LNB and dish must be aligned with each other. If the LNB has been bumped out of alignment, you will never get a signal.

The best $25 I spent was for a satellite signal strength meter. I have been able to tune in my dish in places I thought were hopeless. Maybe had to settle for a 72% signal as opposed to 95+, but that is better than zero signal.

No movement on the needle, the light is on and if I adjust the DB gain up the needle will move. Played with it again today and got frustrated so I packed the dish away, I will try again next week after work.
