iPhone info

I am close to moving up from a Dumb phone to a Smart pnone. I am looking at the iPhone 5S, with Verizon. Anyone have one and can share some info? Does the finger print reader work without problems? Do you use an Ottor Box with a belt clip, or any other belt clip holster? Does that work without problems? What are some of your favorite Apps that I could look at?
Thanks for sharing.
  • My favorite RV-related app is NOAA weather radio. Easy to set for whatever county we happen to be in. I also have the CoachNet app but have never used it and hope we don't have to. But good to know it's there just in case.
  • Some of my favorite apps

    Fantastical
    YP
    Gas Buddy
    Evernote
    Wunderlist
    Instapaper
    Breaking News
    Next Episode
    My Fitness Pal
    Dropbox
    Facebook
    Yelp
  • I have an Otterbox Defender on my 5.

I don't have any issues with it being too bulky. I never use the clip on case, I always carry it in my pocket.

As far as apps- Wow, way too many to list here. Real time weather maps were why I got an iPhone 5 years ago.

What are your interests? Funny/comedy? Web streaming radio? Navigation? Remote control of home security? Internet? Hunting/fishing/outdoors? There are countless gaming apps. News? You get the picture. Search the App Store for what your interests are.

The features that can be done from your iPhone have grown exponentially since I bought my first one.
  • I've had all the Iphones from the 4 …and now up to the 5s for me and for the DW.
Originally I activated the fingerprint feature but after a few days of use went back to normal login. For me - didn't see a need for it.
Currently I use the Speck covers as Otterbox brand too bulky.
  • The fingerprint reader works surprisingly well on my 5s. I have only a bumper and not a full protective case, so I cannot comment on the fingerprint reader along with an Otterbox. To me, most of those super protective cases are way too bulky. When I did have one, I quickly cut out the screen protector film. The iPhone screen is nearly impossible to scratch in daily use, so the protector was more of an annoyance.
  • Make sure you have good cover on your new iPhone. I've dropped my iPhone 3 different times on tile. I have the Otterbox Defender, but I don't think you can go wrong with the Otterbox or Lifeproof cases.
  • I have an Otterbox Defender for my iPhone 5. Love it. I only use the belt clip when I'm out walking/hiking with the dogs, but it seems to work very well. As far as bulky -- maybe. I'm a small female, though, and it doesn't cause me any problems. To the extent there is bulk, IMO it's a good trade-off for the protection. The only quibble I have with the Defender is that once every two or three months I have to take it apart and clean the inside of the screen protector and my phone screen. Otherwise I start seeing little shimmery spots that look like oil spills in sunlight.

  • I have had my iPhone 5S for 3 weeks. My first smartphone, but long time Apple consumer - iPads, Mac computers.

So for so good. I use the Lifeproof case which is excellent, but expensive. I really like that the thumb reader works with the case installed. Check that feature before you jump on the Otterbox. The Otterbox is also a quality case, but big and bulky in my opinion.
