- BobboExplorer IIThanks. We are old so we don't crank the sound up, especially in the close confines of the RV. We also have hearing issues, so fidelity is lost on us anyway.
- wa8yxmExplorer IIIAs stated no damage, Some loss of power. Possibly some loss of fidelity at either high or low frequency (I forget which).
With solid state amplifiers such as the ones in your RV, some years ago they started making them very low impedeance out,, That way you could use 4, 8, or 16 ohm speakers and all you really lost was power.
So using 6 ohm speakers on a 3-ohm amp.. NO PROBLEM.
The reverse. may cause problems. - tvman44ExplorerShould not do any damage as long as you do not run wide open, then you my run a risk. :)
- strollinExplorerTwice as much impedance (3 vs 6) means half as much current will flow so less power available. Whether the sound output is lower volume or not depends on the efficiency of the speakers.
For the most part, you should be fine but your amplifier will need to work harder. - ScottGNomad6 ohms is less of a load than 3 ohms so no damage will occur.
- SteveAEExplorerIt won't do any damage, but your audio output will be reduced. Depending on the speakers, fidelity may be effected as well.
