Remote temperature alert

We bought a nest at Apple when down in silicon valley, daughter can monitor and control temperature of her house from her iPhone now.

She's 23 and loves it.

Standard short phone cable connects the Freeze Alarm with the XLink..

Thank you all for your input. I purchased the Freeze Alarm intermediate which does not rely on any wifi connection, and can dial up to 3 telephone numbers when an alarm is detected. It should serve me well.

Just a word of warning. I did the same thing with an ATT phone. Only problem was that sometime during the winter it quit working. Yep, there's no perfect solution. We call into our system regularly when the weather dictates concern. At least we'd know there was a problem if the system didn't respond and we could call a neighbor to check things out.

For those that have a landline, it's probably best.

Having said that, if there's a snow or ice storm, landlines can go down too. There's no perfect solution. We use the setup we do because we don't have a landline anymore.

We watch the weather "back home" when we're traveling and call into the system to check the temp regularly when it concerns us.

That;s the reason why I don't like a web-based device for emergency notifications. Occasionally when my broadband has gone down or there is a power outage, the modem or router hangs at some stage in rebooting.

So I prefer a direct phone line connection.

Simplisafe is great. Also try www.lacrossealerts.com I use one of these in the MH to monitor for heat because of the dogs in the summer. But you have to have a router.

The cellular gateway that we use is XLink. See it here on Amazon.

It's a good idea to use a UPS with the X-Link cellular gateway, so that if the power goes off it will be able to have the cell phone call you. Naturally you do NOT want the Freeze Alarm plugged into the UPS, as it needs to know when the power is off. I plug the X-Link and the cell phone into the UPS and the Freeze Alarm into the regular circuit.
