One camping weekend way back in time when I was new to our longer 29' TT I went to a local CG ahead of DW who came later after work. Found a fantastic site along the waterfront road. Couldn't ask for a better site anywhere on the planet and could watch the sun go down, mere feet from the ocean. Getting into the site was going to be a challenge, but heck, there's never a challenge to great for me, lol. Heavily treed CG and they can't trim trees because it's on native land or it's gov't owned foreshore. To get into the site, I had to back part way in and then unhitch, straighten and realign the truck then get the TT fully into place. Wow, what a site!! Waay, waay cool!!

Had a fantastic weekend. Even had some friends on the site directly behind us who managed to snag it before the rest of the hoards arrived at the CG. Took our campfire in a can down to the water's edge one night - very nice! So after all packed up and ready to pull out and head home, I scope things out and decide, nah, I can pull out and get going without having to unhitch part way out and straighten out. So I as I'm pulling out (slowly) I start to realize thing's are suddenly not looking good. With the DW outside relaying instructions to me over the walkie-talkie, I managed to twitch the steering wheel the wrong way and ended up wedging the TT an inch away from a tree at the front and an inch away from a tree at the rear. I was stucker than stuck. OH S@#T as they say... :(

Fortunately (extremely) the CG had their own backhoe, so the maintenance guy came over and dragged the front of the TT sideways to dislodge us - with at least 1/2 the CG standing around gawking at us. You could hear them muttering things like "how the heck did he get that stuck" and "I guess he wasn't awake yet"... Thanks, pffft.

That was a number of years ago and am now watcha call an EXPERT, so know that if you can't back into a site in one go, you don't pull out in one go. ;)

Love this. Sounds like something that could happen to me. I thought that I was the only one.

Good info. I do carry both.

I actually needed boards for the camper tires when I fell off of the pad. Unfortunately, my tailgate was wedged shut by the camper sitting on the corner of it and I couldn't get to them. The neighbor fellow grabbed his but they were long- 4' or so. When I drove the camper onto the end of it, the other end popped up and slammed into my sewer handle and outlet. Got lucky that it only broke the plastic portion of the handle and popped off the sewer cap.

It was a learning experience, that's for sure.

This is one of those popular topics, but most RV owners don't seem to know much about it. A bunch of pictures of people stuck in a flat pasture.

We get instructions on the "right way to use 4wd" only in an emergency. When you work in the West, there are places to go that you can only be reached in 4wd. You have to use it until you get stuck and then get unstuck. After that you have to walk, use skis, or snowshoes. There is no one around so there is no help. It is the reality for a lot of people.

Towing an RV in the snow is not much fun.
Beware of anyone that says things like "my Jeep can go anywhere in 4WD low." Sure buddy whatever you say.

I was thinking the same. I have never charged pulling people with my tractors or 4x4 trucks. Never asked but if offered a donation I usually took it.

There is a difference between being a neighbor and pulling one friend or family member out and a whole field of drunk idiots. I side with Sidecarflip on this one. Do you guys go to work for free?

I do not work for free but I do not change my labor rate depending upon how deep your pockets are, how nice the car you drive is or how big your house is. Additionally if you walk into my shop and need help but cant afford to pay you can sure as hell assume that I will figure a way to help get you back on the road.

When you can stand up under the truck's rear differential, you KNOW it's stuck! Been there, done that. I was a passenger. Walked a few miles to get the tractor. Freak snow storm rolled in and the offroading turned into a "leave it here and report it stolen" kind of a night, LOL.

Of course we didn't, but it might have been easier. First side airbags I was hit with. Didn't hit anything or an impact, but apparently after a certain degree, they freak out and go off anyways, LOL.

Having tractors, backhoes, dozer, and all kinds of rigging gear on the farm, we have typically been the "last resort" when people are really, really stuck.

Fortunately, most of the time I can handle it all with proper rigging and whatever vehicles are onsite. Usually by the time I get there, they've already called ALL their buddies and there are several 4wd's handy ;)

I've taught a lot of guys about rigging and jacks, and have never charged for any of it. It isn't our business, though, either.

The one time I did drive my backhoe quite a distance to help someone was a rolled dozer over a hillside who was skidding logs. He was lucky to be alive. Nobody else would touch it. I couldn't get close. Had to rig long chains down over the hill and use all rigging and hoe pulling. Never try to go ACROSS a steep hillside, always up and down ;)
