Back pressure on city water connection

Hello Everyone,
I am new to rv.net and am looking forward to answering questions that only rvers have knowledge. I am starting off this quest in asking "what would create back pressure in the city water connection". I realize the likely answer would be clogged water line, but I think it may be more than that since the input screen is clean.
Thanks

  • What do you mean by 'back pressure in the city water connection'?

If you are connected via a hose then water from hose bib flows into rv thru city water connection. IT will pressurize rv plumbing system when there is no demand (faucet.shower.toilet etc).

IF no flow/or limited flow then the internal check valve (part of city water connection assembly) is jammed restricting or stopping water flow.

If water is coming out of city water connection when not connected via hose and water pumpo is running then again that check valve is bad

OK I'm confused. If you have 50 psi to city water connection and you are not getting 50 out, yes that's some type of restriction. And that might be a good thing for you. Manufacture might have a regulator installed in the line or aerators might be plugged or you might have low flow shower head that restricts water or something else.

Explain more in detail so people can help you.

    We're all confused,

But if you mean there is very little water pressure when connected to city water, clean the aerators on all faucets in the coach.

    First of all - Welcome!!
Now you have to help us understand what you are trying to ask.
What symptoms are you seeing and what are you doing to identify it as "back pressure in the city water connection"?
Give us a little more info and we'll be in a much better position to be able to help.
Telling us what your rig is would also be useful.
  • Are you talking about the water spray back that occurs when you have turned off the city water and you undo the hose?
  • If you're referring to water leaking out of the city water connector when no hose is connected, then you need to determine why the built-in check valve is leaking. It might be just a bit of dirt in the valve or it might be an 0-ring out of place, or worst case the valve has failed completely, requiring replacement. Replacements are not expensive though, and the actual work is usually not very difficult.
