As battery voltage increases output AC voltage similarly increases?
Basically NO, the inverter is a output voltage controlled device.
However at some point it may just before it goes into alarm status. - jharrellExplorerI would imagine most RV converter/chargers are designed to handle unexpected generator shutdowns. My cheap WFCO 30amp that came with my coach saw many of them without issue.
My Magnum 3000 has a low voltage cutout setting that can be adjusted, currently set to 100v. When I hit the off switch on the gen it flips without anything noticing while the gen continues to wind down. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerI keep seeing visions of that stupid decal on the inside of the door of my monster Gould charger. TO PREVENT DAMAGE DO NOT OPERATE <50Hz >70 Hz
If the Borg gets damaged down there I am going to be a very unhappy camper. Lifeline, Borg, and Samlex is going with me. Sadly because there is no RV parking I am travelling in the toad and staying in $200 month hotels. I will do a renewal on the bus and when that 10-year permit expires well, it shouldn,t be an issue for 2028 hee hee.
But keeping what I have unsmoked is the primary concern. Emergency lighting comes in the form of wax and wick down there. - MrWizardModeratorMex
For us in the USA, you know the utility disconnects when and if this happens
The only spin down I have encountered is my own generator running out of fuel
I have had this happen with every generator I have ever had while RV living
But the mass and power just don't match up to what you are up against
But I have never noticed any damage from any of these events - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerIt's spin-down I'm concerned with. Many central american systems feed 1-2,000 customers. When the systems bounce offline the engine winds down the regulator says hello to the integral cornering frequency of 55 Hz and self protects by linking field current to Hz. For a few seconds voltage and Hz both are crazy low. Wish the Mega would drop out. I do not know enough about this design to know if it self-protects...
.....Therefore.....
It would be wise to inquire here...
Have any of you had one of these power supplies Mega or Meanwell connected during an unplanned rig generator spin-down? - jharrellExplorerCharger->Battery->Inverter is definitely the best way to go for getting good power from bad.
Simpler the better probably for the charger to utilize really bad power, maybe even just building your own simple converter, big transformer, good diodes, for maintaining the system then using a real charger some of the time to get a proper charge when the power is good.
Big boats deal with this a lot with bad/different shore power (50-60hz conversion etc). Many of them have Converter-Inverter systems to clean it up, but not cheap. Many just piece together Charger-Inverter setups to get the same effect in a less automated way. If the charger can handle 50hz automatically probably handle wider range of frequency no problem. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerAt home I have the Sola and the whiz/bang Kubota Kato. But on the road the power issues are worthy of a Steven King script. I built a small size dimension suppression system to protect the Megawatt and with the reasonable size and weight of the Samlex 300 I can provide guaranteed sweet power AC & DC. This is going to follow me to Guatemala. I have concerns that Banana Republic power might overwhelm conventional appliance protection. Reports of generator plant spindown cut-to-black may or may not irritate the Megawatt. Over/under voltage is one thing but how will the critter handle 45 Hz? I remember standing 2 feet from a Todd 75 amp charger and witnessimg an unplanned generator off line event. When the owner got the unit back on line (frozen converter vaporizer) the Todd had shown itself to be smoked. The Samlex tracks as I noted before but 8 volts span is manageable. For laughs I priced a replacement BiPAP in Guat City. $2100 US. Includes FedEx pay in advance 11 day wait to clear customs. Now I am soon to be a proud paranoid owner of a new View Sonic 27" monitor and I am praying it operates off a 12 volt brick. If not, the Samlex will have to do.
You may love my portable earth ground system. Everthing down here has tiled floorsset atop rebar poured concrete. You know those little adapter socket plugs? The metal tab on them is connected to the ground circuit. I made up a five foot length of silicone wire and soldered one end to the socket plug adapter
The other end connects to a marine bronze screw. The screw is fitted to a common car was sponge. The sponge gets soaked and lays on the floor. Lasts 2-3 days. Last week I proofed it. Direct line to ground short. Popped a 15-amp breaker. Works for me in a hotel room hookup. Allows the MOVs and TVRs access to earth ground. - MrWizardModeratorthe kaw would not read the tripp lite
30hz and zero volts
will have to use the dmm - BFL13Explorer IIOn that, a question about "Floating" while "UPSing"
Recently I set up an UPS for the Internet modem in the stick house. This UPS is an extra RV battery, an inverter, and a trickle charger.
So if there is a power failure the modem stays on like nothing happened (unless the service provider also has a power failure and no UPS--it is a phone company, so not likely)
The trickle charger can handle the amps draw ok, but it keeps the voltage higher than it does with no load on the battery. 13.8 vs 13.4
So, since this 13.8 voltage is higher than the proper voltage for floating the battery at the temperature in the house, is this a concern?
If so, Mex might note that. If it is a concern I have another charger I can use instead, which will maintain a lower voltage.
Thanks - jharrellExplorer

The reason I ask is an Inverter - Battery - charger makes a wonderful truly isolated source of AC power.
In the computer world these are called "double-conversion" or "online" UPS's vs the standard "line interactive" UPS with transfer switch. Zero switch time and perfect clean output but more expensive.
Here is a Prevost that does this, giant battery, dc generator, 4 alternators, 20kw of inverters and chargers, no direct connection from shore to house: http://parliamentmotorcoach.com/press-release-060316/
