Hot Water Question - Help Please

I tried to tell you.

You will probably never know the reason the check valve failed. One possibility is that it did freeze and some ice damaged the check valve. Maybe bent it or pushed something aside.

Turn off water source, open the pressure relief valve to drain water out of top of water heater. Then disconnect hot water outlet line at fitting on WH tank.

Then reconnect everything..turn on water source, bleed air out of hot side via faucet........heat water and enjoy the hot water.

The check valve is for when you bypass water heater........if you are using WH no need for check valve. Just get a new one for when you need to bypass (better yet----install a shutoff valve in hot out and forget about the cheapo plastic junk check valve)

Still have a bad check valve.......tapping on the fitting just got it unstuck (for now).

No way was it 'frozen' due to cold temps.
The water inside water heater tank was hot, the cold water flowed in (cause hot flowed out when you popped the PRV open)

OK GUYS - HERE'S THE OUTCOME;

let the hot water side drip - left to run the dogs around 00930- Back around 1030 ... still a drip. Made lunch - talked w/ the neighbor ... by then its about Noon, 50 degrees!! Said !@#$ - took a nap woke up around 1400 to a drip. Decided to tap on the metal/brass fitting w/ a screw driver and then turned the bypass valve off and on a couple of times ---- WOW HOT WATER!!!

I think I'll install a light in this section...again, hot water heater and lines are in the large slide - this section also has a fairly large void where you can see through to the back of the shower and all water lines. light would cover; sink, shower and cold water in and out of hot water heater. I'm sure I rig a light in there - or my son can---I've a bit larger these days -lol! There had to of been a cool breeze coming in somewhere. We had high winds (slamming against that slide), sleet and around 15-19 degrees for about 8 hrs. Glad I found this out now before I take this baby in anything colder!!

NOW for the BIG POSITIVE --- decided to clean out the cabinet to the right side of the sink ---------------- found a 5th of JACK DANIELS ... I'm about to pour me one and toast all of you guys for the help .... THANKS GUYS I'm Back .... lol!!
