What was your experience with Fatmat? I'm considering the product for my Freightshaker. I read the customer comments 96 people give 5 stars and only 3 people gave 1 star. One of those 3 called it "garbage", was that you? :B Seriously, if you have some personal experience with Fatmat, please share. It may help someone avoid a bad purchase.

When doing these you will have to pull the door panel and start with the outer door skin.

Then do the metal skin that the door panel mounts to.

This should help out a bit. Next thing is to pull the interior out and do the floor and rear wall. That should really help.

On the floor of my truck I did 2 layers of ballistic soundproofing made a great difference.

My '05 Ram is not at all noisy (engine) in the cab, but outside is another story. I've learned to shut it off going thru a Mickey D's drve thru...........

It's been a few years, but I don't remember my '01 CTD as being terribly noisey going down the road. It sure was from the outside at idle though. I remember pulling up to stop lights and people I was stopped next to rolling up their windows. :)

You can add sound control mats if your ride is too loud. http://www.fatmat.com You can google FATMAT and find several sources. Amazon sells Fatmat and other products, available in various sizes and thicknesses.

Even the old diesels are noisier at idle. When running down the road they aren't nearly as loud and are often about the same as a gas equiv.
Back in the day I had a Chev. 6.2 (very noisy) and my buddy had a Ford 460. Mine was actually more quiet much of the time (except at idle).

When I'm pulling and driving down the highway the engine sounds about the same as a gas engine.

Our 2001 Ram with the Cummins rattle box, came from the factory with extra sound insulation. Yes can carry on a conversation, Radio doesn't need to be on Max volume, it still makes some noise.
The 2002 was the last of the really noisy Cummins (it is relative), up until then they had single shot mechanical injectors (Big Bang Theory). In 2003 they went to Common Rail electronic injectors.

Depends on your definition of older model. I had a modified 96' Dodge Cummins. When pulling a load up the hill my wife learned not to talk to me. My 2006 Dodge Cummins is alot quieter with a heavier load.

My 2005 Powerstroke came with extra insulation. I barely hear the engine. (I barely hear anything anymore.) I could carry on a conversation with the passenger while towing up a mountain. Much better than the older trucks. I drove a semi back in the 70's and you couldn't hear the passenger unless they yelled. Probably why I can't hear today.
