Generator Opinion

Well I have decided to purchase THIS Based on some reviews I read and a co-worker that actually has the unit. I do believe the Honda or Yamaha would outperform this model in the long run. I am that guy that believes there are some good inexpensive products out there that if maintained well will last to fill my needs. I am looking to Power a 5000 BTU air conditioner basically is all. Everything else I can run off propane and my battery power. I can probably also use the Microwave but not at the same time as AC. I will post again when I actually unbox the item and run it.

we purchased the champion 1200/1500w generator... we have never used the a/c of mircrowave (wife says thats not camping). we just use it to charge the batteries up. we have an 1000w inverter for any small ac items. the generator is about 65 lbs, 60 decibals at 20 ft ( used a decimal reader on it) and cost $190.00 at home depot.. This does us good..

I own a 5500W B&S, 3500W Duramax and a 2400W Yamaha.

There is no way I'd use the 5500W for camping since it's too heavy and way too LOUD.

The 3500W Duramax is relatively quiet and I don't think the noise would be an issue with other campers. The difficult part is dealing with the weight, it's a little too much for grandpa to lug around.

The Yamaha is quiet, only weighs 70lbs and will run my 13.5K btu A/C unit. The major drawback is that the initial cost is three times higher than the 3500W Duramax. Some of that higher initial cost will be made up in lower operating cost, better long term reliability and avoiding medical expenses related to repairing my back as a result of trying to manhandle the 100+ lbs Duramax.

We have a Amerilite and run a Champion 3500/4000 for boondocking by ourselves. For the money they are powerful, RV ready and very dependable. It is louder but only we can hear it and we are in the trailer with the AC cranked so we don't hear it much.

I'd love to replace it with the new Champion 3100w inverter model for around $900 someday.

In a group situation be considerate of others even with the quieter generators. Noise is noise.

The Champion you stated would serve you well for boondocking. Champion also manufactures an inverter type generator similar to the Honda or Yamaha 2K watt units that is quiet, fuel efficient, and can be purchased for around $600.

Just bought one of those Champions because our Yamaha 2400is wouldn't run the a/c. The Champion may be on the quieter side of the old fashioned "contractor" gennies, but is in no way quiet. Very easy to hear over the a/c running and very annoying if sitting outside while the coffee is brewing. I was actually surprised after reading so many reviews saying it wasn't too loud at how loud it really is.
