How much pin weight?
I have a 2002 Silverado 2500HD, duramax, allison. Is 1615lbs. to much pin weight for this truck? I am considering a new 5th wheel and was concerned about this.

That is GM's OFFICIAL position from a warranty position too! LEGAL from a LEO/CVEO is a totally different standard. Legal from a civil court, is also a different standard.

Here is a advertisement from a Lawyer wanting RV accidents that are over the GVWR. so I guess it is the same.

Some time in the "00 era GM as Dodge went with the LT265/70-17" E at or LT245/75-16 E tires both at 3195 lbs x two = 6390 lb capacity. Dodge went to the 17" wheels/tires in '03.
The OP truck may have the old 6084 RAWR which gives him a whoppin' 116 lb less payload on the trucks rear axle :@.
To be legal/safe and avoid lawsuits Just stay under the trucks tire/wheel or spring pack ratings (RAWR) as its going to be carrying most if not all the load.

GM gives their 2500 trucks a 6200 RAWR.
The '02 2500 can weigh in the 2800 lb range which leaves you with around 3200 lbs for a payload
RAWR can be the lessor of tires/wheels/rear spring pack. Never exceed a drive or steer axle/tire load ratings and you will fine.
This is just plain wrong. There is no 2500HD that has a payload capacity of 6200lbs. You are forgetting the truck already has weight to it, somewhere around 6800lbs with an overall gvw of 9500-9900lbs.
My 2500HD has a payload capacity of 2853lbs as listed on the yellow sticker. I am not saying you cannot pull the 5'er, yours is a 2002 could be a totally different animal but you cannot go by what the axle can take from the pin weight, it already has weight on it!
