At least here in the NW states, I have yet to run into an LEO or CVEO that looks at tire, axel or spring rates from a legal how much you can weigh standpoint. Most its 20K per axel, with limitations based on tire width, ie min 500lbs per inch width of tire. Or the paid for license amount. I've been weighed multiple time upwards of 150% of door sticker amount, and have yet to get an overweight ticket. That is not to say that said CVEO could not have put me to the side of the road with some other infraction.....bt from a weight standpoint, chances of you literally getting a ticket is slim. I doubt the OP is going to have upwards of 9500-10K lbs on his truck axels. Even if he was close to that amount, he would not be in a lot of trouble. WHat would probably screw him up the most, brakes. THAT kind of field failure can cause you to have a major moving violation vs over weigh a non moving following your license ticket. Rig is red tagged and can not move until brakes are fixed on site, ie side of road, or towed/carried off the road to a place that can fix ha-ha the brakes. Being overweight from a true LAW standpoint is nothing to worry about.....its the OTHER things to worry about.

Reality is, the LEO/CVEO has to work with a true black and white rule. The Civil court can work with some gray in the middle. An ambulance chasing attorney ONLY sees GRAY! and the manufacture from a warrenty standpoint also only sees black and white. Their black and white is different than the LEO black and white. At the end of the day, ALL 4 folks, see things differently. Question is, which do you want to worry about the most?

From my use of sadi truck, assuming I still had 4 teenage adult sized kids, that 5w would put me overweight in more ways than one. Then again, my family of 6 came in weighing in the 1300 lbs relm as noted when they were teens. Add in 1300 to 1600 and you are close to 3000 lbs of net payload needed. It is probably there, but reality is, one will be bottoming out the rear axel with this much weight in the truck in many conditions. as such, from experience, I will not recommend one have this much wt in a GM 2500 series crew cab truck with a 6000 lb or there about RA. A single wheel with the 6400 lb rating might work......but reality is, you will want something in the 7000 lb plus ra capacity to do what I would do all the time.

Like ALL things great and small, you mileage and what you can or can not do with a given rig, is up to you to figure out.

Here is 3hat GM states as facts but most the people on here believe that the manufacture are clueless about payloads. Most people use the seat of their pants ratings for there truck ratings.

Generally, pin weight is figured as 20 percent of the fiver's GVWR, not 20 percent of the dry weight. So you're saying that the GVWR of the new fifth wheel is less then 8100 pounds ?

All the models have 6084 on the rear axle up until maybe 2014, 2015 they changed to the 6200.

This is just plain wrong. There is no 2500HD that has a payload capacity of 6200lbs. You are forgetting the truck already has weight to it, somewhere around 6800lbs with an overall gvw of 9500-9900lbs.

My 2500HD has a payload capacity of 2853lbs as listed on the yellow sticker. I am not saying you cannot pull the 5'er, yours is a 2002 could be a totally different animal but you cannot go by what the axle can take from the pin weight, it already has weight on it!

You misread what he said - his post is correct.

If going to 265 one really should source wider rims. Here is a picture of a 265 on the narrow GM wheel. I am surprised that tire shops do this. It takes away from sidewall strength, leads to wear issues and can cause stability issues. Chris
