- dannytasExplorerI had the same problem with both fifth wheel trailers having 12' doors. We just replaced the a/c with a shorter one. Carrier Air V.
- SprinklerManExplorerWe actually raised a garage 3 ft about 10 years ago. Jacked it ip added 4 courses of block and a larger garage door . Took 1 week .
Had another friend that stored his trailer in the garage for the winter. the garage door was 3 inches too short , he had 4 old rims with no tires he would put on the trailer and backed it in till spring . - Bank_of_DadExplorerDig out your floor about 8 inches.:)
- DiskDoctrExplorerMake sure there is enough room to jack the tongue off the hitch ball, too ;)
- anaroExploreralso don't forget in some garages the motor and arm sit lower than the door.
- rockhillmanorExplorer IIDitto on the slope into the garage. I ordered a brand new 'building$$', had the contractor measure my MH to make sure the garage door they installed was tall enough. Measured twice and added extra height to door.
Only thing after the building was built and all finished and landscaped I went to pull my MH to protect it from a pending storm and it did NOT fit. The concrete ribbon up to the building had just enough rise to it that the MH did not clear the top of the garage door. :(
So watch if you are adding or have an existing ribbon into the garage. Just a very slight incline throws off all the measurements. :B - wowaminnieExplorerWell, it seems that all of the things mentioned above have definitely conspired against me. We got home with the new Minnie yesterday evening and I just tried to put ten ft of TT in a ten ft door and from the top of the ladder it looked possible but from the AC at about ten ft out to the ac at a ft out the door appeared about 10 inches lower. Will make a call to Overhead Door (my installer about 5 years ago) tomorrow and if they are closed for Labor Day, then Tuesday. Will discuss options with them.
Thanks for all of the quick responses. - tatestExplorer IIWon't know until you try. My metal roll-up door hang lower at the center than the height of the door opening, big double door more so than the single door. So you might measure for low point, of open door, or door as it moves, rather than height of opening.
You might gain an inch or two, level height, letting air out of tires, but you won't want to store it that way, and TT may not be level going in and out.
Also check clearance width, and how much length you really have.
I've been through this trying to shop a TT or folder with the idea of storing it in the "boat" section of my garage built by a previous resident. That part of the garage better fits a small boat than a small RV. - dave17352ExplorerI had my header raised and put in a 14 foot door. Do you have room for that. If so I would do that. Don't go with a 12 foot door because you may get a 5th wheel and then you will have to change it to a 14' door.
Don't ask how I know! - alcaracuExplorermine was off about 1/2 to3/4 inches. I diconnect the automatic door opener and pull the door up to the max and hold it there with bungee cords. I gained about an inch and make it, but all doors are different. al c
