What can a Jeep Cherokee diesel really pull?

Not a problem if you are using a Hensley or Propride Connection system.

I've got the 2008 Jeep GC diesel. I pull a 20' Vibe that's around 4,000 lbs. I cruise between 60-65 mph. I use an Equalizer weight distribution and stabilizer hitch set-up. I've travelled all over and spend a lot of time around the Blue Ridge. I pull the TT with ease and am thinking of trading up. I understand that Jeep states the maximum trailer length is 30'. You're not going to break any speed records but I wouldn't worry about it's pulling capacity. The jeep does have a narrower wheelbase so I would definitely recommend weight distribution and sway control. I also spent a lot of time this summer in really hot weather and I didn't notice any difference.

Years ago, I had a Wrangler CJ-7 that pulled a stock trailer with two horses - with an inline 6 gas engine. I would imagine the diesel could pull more.

I've pulled a 21' 5,500 lb RV or a 23' 4,500 lb RV with our 2008 CRD up and down the west coast.

Our last vehicle was a 2002 Durango with the 5.9 liter engine and 3.92 axle ratio. The CRD is a better tow vehicle in my opinion. It's faster to get up to freeway speed and towing mileage is about 50% better.

Thanks. A CRD is a grand cherokee deisel? If it's a better tow vehicle than a durango I'm sold. Wife's 2004 durango has the Hemi but not the pulling rear end. It's adequate but it would be nice to have a bit more balls for the hills. The hemi really screams on anything more than a slight grade. Sucks down the fuel like crazy too.

Love the idea of a quality powertrain like the Mercedes but in something affordable like a jeep. Too bad they don't make them anymore. The ones for sale don't seem to go cheap unless the miles are up there. How many km would be getting to the point were the rest of the jeep would be wearing out? I'd like to find one under 100,000 but I think lots of others would like that too.

Hammerhead's Durango was the 5.9 (360). If memory serves, it is around 230 HP and 330 lb/ft torque. If you have the 5.7 Hemi, you are looking at around 345 HP and 390 lb/ft of torque. Big difference there.

I doubt the CRD would out pull the Hemi.

I had a Jeep GC Hemi. Pulled my 5000 pound boat very well, other than the fuel economy. You just have to be willing to let it rev. That is what that engine was built to do.

My Jeep diesel has 160,000 KM and the interior is like new. I've seen no deterioration in performance. I do take care of it with regular maintenance. Most of my earlier problems were caused because I didn't know what the glow plug indicator was and I was starting the car before the glow plug heated up. This only takes a second but I've learned the glow plug heating is very important to the smooth operation of this car.
