Adventures in our Keystone
Hi all! I am new to the community but wanted to share about our first real adventure with friends! We took our Keystone Cougar to the great state of Arizona and it was an absolute blast! Cruising through the Arizona desert and winding roads felt like a real-life adventure especially cause we have spent our whole lives in the Midwest! Let me tell you the Grand Canyon and Sedona did not disappoint! Evenings were all about campfires, stargazing, and swapping stories with fellow road warriors. Honestly, this RV trip was less of a vacation and more of a wild ride through the heart of the Southwest. I can tell you this will not be our last trip to Arizona. Any suggestions on where we should head to next? Darcey really wants to continue into southern California!2.3KViews2likes12CommentsHave TTs gotten any better?
My husband and I full timed for 5 years in a 34' Cougar and loved it. When we finally planted, we tried a TT with sway bars for all of about 2-3 trips and hated it. We're now looking at a Arctic Fox 29-5K fifth wheel for more elbow room. Before we take the plunge, has anything improved in travel trailer towing?1.1KViews1like9CommentsDry tongue weight versus fully loaded
Hello, I’m wondering if there is an estimated percentage increase in fully loaded tongue weight of a fifth wheel trailer when appropriately loaded to capacity, versus the factory listed dry tongue weight? for example, the trailer I’m looking at purchasing has a listed dry tongue, weight of 1930 pounds. The maximum trailer gross vehicle weight is 12,000 pounds. The trailers carrying capacity for cargo fluids, etc. is 3239 pounds. I’m trying to make sure the truck I would choose for fifth wheel can accommodate the fully loaded tongue weight. Is there a way to estimate the increase in tongue weight when the trailer is fully loaded to get a reasonable approximation? Some good technical input would be appreciated. The automatic leveling warning on the display on the above mentioned 5th Wheel won't quit beeping. It keeps telling me "Error - LF Jack" We don't see anything wrong with the left jack! The system tells us to "manually retract all jacks or hold retract button to Auto retract. Tried that with no results. We bought this 5th wheel from Camping World in Ft. Worth, TX. It was barely used;; however, there was no manual. That drives me crazy and I can't get any information without taking it in and paying someone to look at it. Anyone out there know what I'm talking about !471Views0likes2CommentsDometic DMC4101 Problem
I have the above 12V fridge and the evaporator freezer fan stopped working. Blue blinking light in fridge compartment. From my searches I have found that this is either a fan failure (4453000635) or the Control bd failure (4453000636). No one has this fan in stock and I have been able to locate a Control Board. (Have tried like motors to no avail.) I have sent Dometic a message several weeks ago and have not heard back from them. I have had some minor problems before with this unit but have been able to address them. The company does NOT support their products by having parts available. I am almost at the point of chucking this 2 yr. old fridge and getting a Residential. Two points: 1. Do not purchase this product and 2, does anyone have luck with a Residental Fridge.....10 cu. Model and make please. I am a full timer, basically hooked up to shore power at my site most of the time. It is a good thing this did not happen on the road. I personally, will never buy another Dometic product other than the toilet I have which works well. (no joke intended)438Views0likes4CommentsColeman Mach HP going to Gas Override

I know that the are designed to swith to gas heating wen the outside temperature falls below 40 or 35 degrees, but mine is going into gas override and it's only 56 degrees outside. How can I fix that? It's usin up my gas.421Views0likes1Comment** BUYER BEWARE ** KEYSTONE MONTANA 5th WHEEL - THIRD CATASTROPHIC STRUCTURAL COLLAPSE
** BUYER BEWARE ** To ANYONE looking to purchase a KEYSTONE MONTANA 5th WHEEL, please BEWARE!! We have experienced our THIRD CATASTROPHIC SUSPENSION FAILURE on our Keystone Montana 3790RD 5th wheel which involved the leaf springs snapping for the THIRD time, which then caused the second axle on the unit to be forcefully jammed up into the the chassis causing significant damage to the underbelly of our unit, along with CUTTING OUR BREAK LINES causing us to lose the brakes on our trailer while going down an overpass on a highway. We have been informed by the repair shop that we are EXTREMELY lucky there was not a fatality and that if they repair it, the chances of it happening again are EXTREMELY high and just a matter of time until there is a fatality with the unit. We tried reaching out to Keystone RV and Thor Industries via letter, and all we received was an extremely rude call from the VP of Service Operations, Garrett, telling us our request for assistance was not warranted and that our letter was an "extremely unrealistic expectation and will not happen." He also said that Keystone RV will NOT financially assist in anyway and that we are "absurd" for even asking. Keystone is also fully aware that I had a PICC line in my arm for IV medication and we were stranded on the side of the road for over 6 hours because of their manufacturing defects. We are still stranded, and have been for almost 2 weeks, in the town we were passing through when the incident happened because the repairs are now up to $10,000 and with the safety warning of taking it back on the road, we are extremely concerned. We just want to make sure ANYONE LOOKING TO BUY A KEYSTONE MONTANA 5th WHEEL is aware of what happened to us and the absolute NIGHTMARE we are dealing with because of the terrible manufacturing of our KEYSTONE MONTANA 5th WHEEL. Please travel safe y'all.304Views1like16CommentsInsight re: purchase
Hello, seeking insight: we are considering an opportunity to purchase an "older" 5th wheel - approx 13-14 yrs old. Not used for over the road travel, rather a seasonal site. Our intended use would be similar in same location. Seeing lifespan estimates about 5th wheels and trailers in general online, feeling a bit nervous about a big investment ($18k), but it does on the whole seems clean, very well kept and maintained, and like it is a decent deal vs what we are seeing for the range on newer models. Was hoping for #1: any considerations and thoughts about buying a used model in this age bracket - does it matter if it hasn't been on the road (surely tires are shot just from sitting). Amd #2: Would also appreciate specific things to look at and watch out for when considering purchase and going to look it over in person. Thanks in advance!293Views0likes11CommentsNorthwoods Foxmountain Slide Out
This Northwoods Foxmountain Slide Out design just can't be right. The manufacturer wouldn't fix it and sent me to a dealer. Bish RV (dealer) said it was designed this way and they wouldn't fix it. The top comes in first and then the bottom will come in causing the upper trim to bend. Can't find any schematics. Need someone familiar with this.248Views0likes2CommentsNo 12 Volt without converter
So my recently acquired 2002 Jayco Qwest 253D fiver suddenly has absolutely no power when not connected to shore power. Both batteries are showing 12.5 volts, so seem good, but not getting charged by converter. All electric works fine with shore power, but no 12 volt at all without shore power. All the regular 12 volt fuses are good. There is no battery shut off switch as i haven’t gotten around to installing one yet. Someone told me there is an automatic disconnect switch that might have gone bad, but i can’t locate one. I’d appreciate any help anyone can provide. Thanks!Solved223Views0likes8Comments
