- CManleyExplorerColoma is a ways from Lake Tahoe off of HWY 50, 1 1/2 hours west of South Lake Tahoe. Its a nice area however a long drive back to Tahoe if that is your destination. If your next destination is west or south that could work.
Have you tried the list of campgrounds below all are locations with easy access to all South Lake Tahoe activities.
Zephyr Cove -
Location is great with direct access to the lake. Good beach, para-sailing, kayaks, etc.
Campground by the Lake -
Lake access with OK beach, location with easy access to all South Lake Tahoe activities
Tahoe Valley Campground -
Swimming pool, arcade games,
Camp Richardson -
Limited RV spots, access to nice beach, boats, kayaks, horse back riding, - GGeorgeExplorerNear Sacramento Folson Lake area, was the first Gold rush way back when, also old folsom prision. Much history around the Silver and American river area.
- oldcat1ExplorerKatRobMcD - Feather Falls is quite remote and there is a fairly long hike involved. Not a place you would take your TT. It can however be a beautiful falls, but with our lack of rain and snow pack it will not be as impressive this year.
Durango in Red Bluff is a very nice park - JTExplorerplanned to take 299 over to Tahoe so your suggestions are perfect. Had some difficulty finding adequate campgrounds around Tahoe so settled on Ponderosa in Coloma.
---
The western stretch of 299 goes between just north of Arcata to Redding (@I-5); the eastern portion goes from Redding to Alturas where it runs into 395. IOW, 299 is nowhere near Tahoe.
You might want to reconsider the timing; you mentioned "spending a day or two"? If this is the plan, you may never get out of the cab between destinations. :@ - KatRobMcDExplorerKorbe - We are huge waterfall fans so Burney Falls will be right up our alley too. Thanks! Have you been to Feather Falls? Is it worth a visit?
- KatRobMcDExplorerHuge thanks for all the suggestions! Settled on Durango in Red Bluff as a midway point. Hope it is as nice as it seems on the net.
i5Trucker - we are staying in Klamath for a couple of days in the Redwoods and planned to take 299 over to Tahoe so your suggestions are perfect. Had some difficulty finding adequate campgrounds around Tahoe so settled on Ponderosa in Coloma. Coloma seems to have a lot to offer. - bikendanExplorerif you are into wine, you can drop the kids off at Six Flags in Vallejo and go wine tasting in Napa or Sonoma Valleys while they have fun.

- korbeExplorerIf your teenagers enjoy natural beauty I would sudjest Burney Falls and Lassen Park. If your teenagers are into theme parks Cal Expo in Sacramento has a water park.
Oh course, I am assuming you mean the coast redwoods, and not the Sierra sequoias. - i5truckerExplorerWhen you say "the redwoods" where exactly are you talking about? If you are far enough north, don't miss Trees of Mystery near Crescent City,CA, the victorian style houses of Ferndale,CA, the lumber camp towns along the coast, Samoa Cookhouse in Eureka,CA. Hwy 299 from Eureka to Redding has a lot of neat things to see too. If you come across 299, be sure to stop in Weaverville,CA, it is an old gold mining town with lots of museums and The Joss House. Another place to stop would be Whiskeytown Lake, there are several camp grounds around the lake if you wanted to spend a night or two.
