Because I am a tightwad, we will be staying at Greenbelt Park in Greenbelt MD. It is run by the national park service. It has no hookups. It does honor the old peoples pass.
We stayed there a couple of times and drove a short distance to the Metro station. The park itself is in a nice location, but outside of the park is nothing but traffic everywhere.
Next week we will be staying at Capitol KOA in Millersville MD. The CG is supposed to have a shuttle to DC, although our primary goal is visiting Annapolis this trip. - John_WayneExplorer IIAnd if you have a pet Cherry hill has a pet walking service. And can take a tour bus tour right from the campground.
- John_S_Explorer III would stay at bull run in centrevile va. And drive over to the metro. Much cheaper and loads of stuff to do in the area. Right next to the air and space annex too

- noe-placeExplorerWe've stayed there a couple of times and will probably come back sometime. We weren't bothered by the highway noise. Bus to train and then anywhere you want to go. Maps on the walls of the cars and the office has train maps to carry with you to plan your daily visits.
- jfkmkExplorerWe just returned from Cherry Hill. It is a nice CG, very clean, and a very friendly and helpful staff. We were on the side near the bus depot, but everything is pretty close to the depot, and there is a parking lot there as well, so if you want to drive to near the depot from your site, you can. Of course, going to DC you walk miles a day, so you should be able to go a 1/4 mile back to your site:). Anyway, the ONLY complaint about the CG is the proximity to the highway. What a hideous noise! Good thing it was kind of warm and we ran the AC. Other than that, I would definitely stay there again. BTW, the premium sites come with a nicer table, a brick patio and a built in grill.
- Mike__RoseExplorerWe liked the upper or back section with the woods behind our site. You do have a longer walk to the pool and front entrance though. If you go to the zoo, get off the metro at the stop before the zoo so you will have a flat walk to the zoo. When leaving walk down hill to the metro station, you will find it easier. You can purchase metro tickets and tours right at the campground. Have a fun trip.
- B_s_BunchExplorerWe are a small town type of people. Washington is not a small town. I can't wait to go back. Cherry Hill is the only place I can speak of in the area. Absolutly no problems. Wife wanted the site across from the pool. Appeared to be the most level site there but we ended up near the back. Still no problems. And as hard as it may be to believe we met some of the nicest people (locals) when we were down town.Go and enjoy we did. Larry
- AtleeExplorer IIIf you want to visit DC, this is probably the very best CG to use. AS has been said, transport to and from Cherry Hill is very good.
As much as I can remember, all the sites are good.
While it is a bit pricey, you must remember that you are probably getting the best CG to use for visiting DC.littlemo wrote:
May be going to Washington DC in September. Anyone have a preferred site in Cherry Hill Park? Is the transportation to Mall good? Other campgrounds in the area? Thanks. - soosExplorer IIAgree that most of their sites are fine. We found it easier to drive to the metro station down the road and leave our truck there. Cost about the same as adding in the bus ride from the park itself, and more convenient for us. Each day they have a small seminar about getting around the city, and what there is to do. Worth attending.
there may be other parks, but this one, although pricy, makes the visit easier.
You don't need to get a trolley pass if you don't want to- the metro is extensive and easy to use. We just used the metro to get every where.
