- Mark_and_LindaExplorerCheck out Henry Horton State Park, Montgomery Bell State Park, Cedars of Lebanon State Park. The Stones River National Battlefield in Murfreesboro is a nice Civil War Park, Carnton Plantation in Franklin, TN. Chattanooga is only a two hour drive down the interstate, several Civil War areas there. Good day trips from any campground you choose.
- 1stgenfarmboyExplorer22 miles south is campers rv park, looks nice.
- Jim2007ExplorerHi; Thanks to all that sent information on campgrounds and sites in the Franklin, Tennessee. Jim2007
- Tiger02ExplorerVery interesting history with this battle. Several of us from Fort Campbell received a guided tour from Eric Jacobson, author of "for Cause for Country". A very good book that also covers Spring Hill. It's a shame there are not any closer RV parks.

Double ditto on this site and also on the recommendation of Henry Horton State Park as a base for exploring.
I also agree with checking the Nashville area of which Franklin is a subcommunity. We prefer Allstays for reliable info on campgrounds. Here's a link to the Allstays page:
Allstays.com Campgrounds in/near Nashville. - padredwNomadAnd also Montgomery Bell State Park, also about 30 miles from Franklin. We made this our base for visits in the area which specifically included Franklin.
I have g,g,g, and g,g,g,g grandfathers buried in Williamson county, and another great grandfather who fought in the Battle of Franklin. - Larry-DExplorer IICheck out Henry Horton State Park Campground. It's 30 miles from the campground to Franklin, roughly. The campground is our campground of choice. Very large spaces and very clean.

- Johno02ExplorerIf you are interested in the Civil War around the Nashville area, I would recommend one of the RV parks in Nashville, and day trips to whatever sites you would like to visit. Another good choice would be over towards Murfreesboro, where the cemetary and battlefield are. Lots more happened there than Franklin, and it is a short day trip over to Franklin. I am vary familiar with Civil War history around the Nashville area, and several nice RV parks there. PM me, for more info if you are interested.
- ken56ExplorerThere are no parks in the immediate Franklin area. Have you checked the Good Sam trip planner to see what comes up for campgrounds? rvparky and rvparkreviews.com are a good source of info too. Also, civilwartraveler.com has very good info for the area. There are quite a few choices but they are not conveniently located. As for time to visit, spring comes about mid March for mild daytime temps but still cool nights. You never know what mother nature has in store though.
